The Fall of the Roman Republic
The Fall of the Roman Republic | Plutarch
5 posts | 4 read | 1 reading | 1 to read
This collection illuminates the twilight of the old Roman Republic. It describes the would-be dictators of Crassus and Spartacus, the death of political idealist Cato, Julius Caesar'S triumph in Gaul, the elegant oratory of Cicero and more, giving an insight into an empire wrecked by political divisions.

"However, I should have to write another essay altogether to determine the point whether this is a real change and revolution in a man's nature, brought about by fortune, or whether it is rather the case that when a man is in power the evil that has been latent in him reveals itself openly."
-Plutarch, "Fall of the Roman Republic"

I don't have the tagged book, but I do have others by Plutarch. Now I'm curious about his thoughts on women. Added a Robert Harris book for Roman reference 😜

(I've never seen the musical, but had a crush on Evan on the television show)

CrowCAH Love the tissues in the pic; nice touch! (Sorry I couldn‘t leave the video of the song, from the play; updated to the new iOS and typing in Litsy is like writing in the dark. And I can‘t paste, otherwise there would be a link.) 7y
drokka @CrowCAH No worries about the video, I was able to find one on YouTube. A little horrified by the lyrics (clearly times have changed lol) but there was loads to work with 😁 7y
Andrea4 You should read Plutarch's Advice to the Bride and Groom- a letter so it's short. I think a lot of efitions have that paired with a letter to his wife, A Consolation to his Wife. You'll have a laugh and then be moved. 7y
drokka @Andrea4 Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look for those. 7y
