My Uncle Oswald
My Uncle Oswald | Roald Dahl
Meet Oswald Hendryks Cornelius, Roald Dahl's most disgraceful and extraordinary character . . . Aside from being thoroughly debauched, strikingly attractive and astonishingly wealthy, Uncle Oswald was the greatest bounder, bon vivant and fornicator of all time. In this instalment of his scorchingly frank memoirs he tells of his early career and erotic education at the hands of a number of enthusiastic teachers, of discovering the invigorating properties of the Sudanese Blister Beetle, and of the gorgeous Yasmin Howcomely, his electrifying partner in a most unusual series of thefts . . . 'Raunchy and cheeky entertainment' Sunday Express 'Immense fun' Daily Telegraph Roald Dahl, the brilliant and worldwide acclaimed author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, and many more classics for children, also wrote scores of short stories for adults. These delightfully disturbing tales have often been filmed and were most recently the inspiration for the West End play, Roald Dahl's Twisted Tales by Jeremy Dyson. Roald Dahl's stories continue to make readers shiver today.

"I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. He taught me that if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be."

Pickpick

The writing was fantastic, but the story did drag on a little. I think this would have made a great novella.

Louise It definitely has some laugh out loud moments! 😂 8y
MidnightBookGirl My book club read this a few years ago for our Naughty November book, and while I didn't love it, it definitely had some great moments- especially what happens to him in the bathtub! 8y

I'm loving all the Roald Dahl posts, he's an absolute favourite of mine! I didn't discover his adult novels until I was in grad school and it was like falling in love all over again 😍

Mehso-so

Bought this years and years ago because I loved Roald Dahl when I was a kid. Unfortunately it doesn't hold up for me. It has none of the magic I love in his writings. On the other hand, the premise is exceptionally unique and that is quintessential Dahl.

Louise I read this years ago and found it wickedly funny! The tone, of course, is quite different from his magical children's books! I hear what you're saying on that front! 😋 8y

Re-reading this book and despite its racy subject matter, realize it's slow reading! This is Todd Oldham's vision of librarian clothes, by the way, at the show at the RISD Museum in Providence.
