The Girl Who Dreamed
The Girl Who Dreamed: A Hong Kong Memoir of Triumph Against the Odds | Sonia Leung
1 post | 1 read
At fourteen, Sonia Leung was raped by her ping-pong coach. She had moved from China to join her family in Hong Kong, but she could not fit in. The family of six lived in a cramped hut but rarely communicated. Feeling unloved, Sonia was too afraid to tell anyone about the rape. She saved money by working part-time at McDonald's and, a year later, she ran away from home. This is how she found her way to an independent life.

I am amazed with the many Chinese literature references in this memoir that shaped up this author‘s life. Truly eye-opening and straight to the point, I sympathise with what she has to endure and the harrowing life growing up. I‘m glad she‘s grown to be a strong woman and able to face her demons. My rating is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. Thanks to the publisher, LibraryThings and author for this copy 🙏🏻
