From New York Times Bestselling author Kelley Armstrong comes a spellbinding new tale of supernatural horror involving a haunted-house, seances, lost loved ones, and a sinister spirit out for blood... Nicola Laughton never expected to see adulthood, being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as a child. Then medical advances let her live into her thirties and she met Anton, who taught her to dream of a future... together. Months after they married, Anton died in a horrible car crash, but lived long enough to utter five words to her, Ill be waiting for you. That final private moment became public when someone from the crash scene took it to the pressthe terminally ill woman holding her dying husband as he promised to wait for her on the other side. Worse, that person claimed it wasnt Anton who said the words but his ghost, hovering over his body. Since their story went public, Nicola has been hounded by spiritualists promising closure. In the hopes of stopping her downward spiral, friends and family find a reputable mediuma professor of parapsychology. For the sance, they rent the Lake Erie beach house that Antons family once owned. The medium barely has time to begin his work before things start happening. Locked doors mysteriously open. Clouds of insects engulf the house. Nicola hears footsteps and voices and the creak of an old dumbwaiter...in an empty shaft. Throughout it all shes haunted by nightmares of her past. Because, unbeknownst to the others, this isnt her first time contacting the dead. And Nicola isnt her real name. Thats when she finds the first body.... In this atmospheric, thrilling new ghost story, Kelley Armstrong's full talents are on display to thrill, chill and leave the reader guessing how Nicola escapes with her life--if she can.

Book 98📚 3⭐️

A soft pick. Typical middle of the road haunting/possession.

Nothing too wild but still a good read.

Kelley Armstrong‘s latest stand alone horror is a haunted house story with a high creep factor. I‘m not typically scared by horror stories, but this one got under my skin and definitely disrupted my sleep for a couple nights. I really liked the characters and the structuring of the story.

BarbaraBB For a couple of nights? That sounds extremely scary! 2mo
Hooked_on_books @BarbaraBB It‘s my own fault for reading it in the dark right before sleep. Not smart! 2mo

Kelly Armstrong never disappoints. I caught the twist just slightly before the protagonist, but only because we knew stuff she didn't know. #54-2024

This felt like a supernatural, almost Gothic-like thriller.
This is a dual timeline story stretching from the main character's teenage years to current day (my preference being the younger Nicola's story). But while the writing and plotline were OK, I did have some frustrations with Nicola as I didn't feel much connection with her and became exasperated with her wishy-washy attitude toward the "ghost" aspect of the story. Yes, she sought out ⬇️

robinb evidence of the supernatural, but she seemed a bit blase about it at times. And yes, this is fiction, but I definitely had to suspend my belief during the denouement.

So, while it did work on some levels with me, it wasn't quite as great as I had hoped in others...but not a bad read. 3.5/5⭐️

Armstrong‘s latest standalone makes for a great #SpookySeasonRead! The book opens with Nicola, marveling at how her life has exceeded her dreams, with a happy marriage & remarkably good health, despite having CF. When tragedy strikes, she can‘t stop seeking contact with her dead husband, but finding herself debunking frauds. A weekend in a remote lake house with a professor, her BIL & a new friend seeks to be her last seance. A spooky ghost story!

JenlovesJT47 I looove Kelley Armstrong! Have you read any of her time travel books? They‘re so good! 2mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I have read them all!! I love her, too! I have ever since first reading Bitten— I have missed only a few of her books ever since! And the ones I have missed, are already in my TBR! 🤣 2mo
JenlovesJT47 Listening to the first A Stitch In Time book is what got me hooked hardcore on audiobooks! I haven‘t read all of her books but am slowly working my way through. You have good taste! 😁🤓 2mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I actually don‘t think I have ever listened to any of her books! I will have to do that!! And thanks, book twin!! I‘m so glad the Wakefields brought us together!! 🥰 2mo

I was given an ARC from St. Martins Press at NetGalley for my honest review.
#IllBeWaiting starts with bumps in the night and rachets up the tension from there. There are two timelines in the book, and they both feature seances gone wrong. The main character and supporting characters are well-developed. As the book progresses, tension accelerates to a hair-raising climax. Kelley Armstrong has created a solid ghost story.
