Bailedbailed

This novella was beginning to feel like a chore, so I DNF'd. The main characters' arc felt inauthentic, and the tone whiney. The focus on morally grey characters feels like it comes from poorly designed protagonists and antagonists. There's no good or bad, per se, just the abstract grey area in-between, and it's not a riveting concept when you're wishing the characters would mysteriously succumb to a curse because they're so damn irksome. (1/3).

TheIntrovertedDodoBird After discovering the controversy surrounding Freydis Moon, I won't be continuing with their work. I feel like I've glimpsed inside the portal of their mind enough; continuously sensualizing toxic relationships, glossing over past abuse with an abrasive 'just get over it' attitude, the lack of accountability for cultural appropriation. They rely heavily on tropes; The Masochism Tango, Witch with a Capital B, A Match Made in Stockholm. (2/3). 8mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird I'm relieved that I only borrowed these books and didn't contribute to Moon's racial misrepresentation of themselves. Masquerading as a Latinx author under various aliases after racist bullying towards BIPOC authors is abhorrent. Rant officially over (3/3). 8mo
