Although I enjoyed this novel, and I like reading a story about a hero at the FDA (they do so much to keep us safe), I found the story itself to be a little flimsy. The motives of the bad guy never quite ring true for me. It seems more like a collection of elements and character types mixed together than it does like a cohesive story. I found it fun to read while I was reading, but I don't think this one is going to stick with me.

Reading Ben H. Winters new novel while making grits for breakfast. Have loved Ben H. Winters ever since reading The Last Policeman trilogy.

I'm bailing on the book not because I don't like it but I'm not in the mood for it. Will.pick up again later.

Poor Allie is kidnapped from a playground, leaving her child in the sandbox. Soon after, Grace, who works at a mid level job at the FDA, comes across a photo of Allie in a hospital bed with some sort of odd port inserted in her body. That starts this mystery of who exactly is Allie and how did this port come to be embedded in her body. I found this to be a far fetched story about harvesting time from unsuspecting patients.

Ben Winters never disappoints. He's in the same class as Blake Crouch and Rob Hart, creating twisty, mind-bending science that comes across as possible. This book is a mix of a thriller and a horror about what would happen if people were able to harvest time. A quick read that I devoured. He has become an auto buy author for me! ##catsoflitsy #alice
