The Menopause Brain
The Menopause Brain: The new science for women to navigate midlife and optimise brain health for later years | Lisa Mosconi
3 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
The New York Times bestselling author of The XX Brain outlines the latest science showing how to navigate perimenopause and menopause successfully, and come out the other side with an even better brain. Menopause and perimenopause are still a black box to most doctors, leaving patients exasperated as they grapple with symptoms ranging from hot flushes to insomnia and brain fog. As a leading neuroscientist and women's brain health specialist, Dr Lisa Mosconi unravels the mystery by revealing how menopause doesn't impact just the ovaries, but is a hormonal show in which the brain takes centre stage. The decline of oestrogen during menopause influences everything from body temperature to mood and memory, potentially paving the way for cognitive decline later in life. To conquer these challenges successfully, Mosconi brings us the latest approaches: from cutting-edge hormone replacement therapies such as 'designer oestrogens' to the role of hormonal contraception, and key lifestyle changes encompassing diet, exercise, self-care, and self-talk. Best of all, Mosconi dispels the myth that menopause signifies an end, demonstrating it's actually a transition. Contrary to popular belief, if we know how to take care of ourselves during menopause, we can emerge with a renewed, enhanced brainand usher in a meaningful and vibrant new chapter of life. 'Dr Lisa Mosconi is my go-to for insightful guidance on the brain during menopause' - Naomi Watts, actor 'This book is for all the times women have felt crazy, and been called crazy. We now have proof, our brains were changing, and the good news is...often for the better.' - Alison Daddo, author of Queen Menopause 'For anyone whose brain is not playing nicely during their peri- and menopause journey.' - Dr Ginni Mansberg, author of The M Word 'The latest research with practical advice so you can take your brain's health into your own hands during midlife and beyond.' - Sarah Connor, advocate, Menopause Over Martinis

Learnt some things (neuroendocrine system) and was reminded of some other things (HRT research & the U-shaped happiness curve). All helpful contributions to my arsenal of information, enabling me to stay focused on living my best life, through menopause and beyond ℹ️ 🧠.

I have read and learnt a lot about menopause over the past few years. Lisa Mosconi is one of my important sources. Menopause can have
“…an array of well over thirty different symptoms..”
I sure did not know that a few years ago. At 53 now and being perimenopausal I reckon I‘ve experienced a few of them that I previously had no awareness were linked to the dramatic fluctuations then drop of estrogen.

LapReader I‘m loving my experience. Ha! 1mo
LeeRHarry Most fun I‘ve ever had….not! 1mo
wanderinglynn And symptoms can start a lot earlier than most realize. What frustrates me the most is that when I go to the doctor, they just shrug & say, well you‘re at that age. 🤬 But if men had to go through this, there‘d be pills & treatments & all sorts of options. 1mo
AmyG @wanderinglynn Ain‘t that the truth! @LapReader Not a woman alive that enjoys menopause. (edited) 1mo
Jeg My take on it is all in the looking back , I lived through some hard times while some around me just breezed through it all. Glad your generation maybe getting a handle on it all. 1mo
