"A deadly, dangerous, beautiful nightmare." Chris Whitaker, New York Times bestselling author of We Begin at the End For readers of Rachel Hawkins and We Were Never Here comes a searing vacation thriller set on a remote island in Thailand following two mysterious women, a charismatic group of expats, and the one murder poised to bring their paradise crashing down. Welcome to paradise. We hope you survive your stay... There are three rules to survive a dive at the famous Koh Sang Resort 1 - Breathe normally if something goes wrong. Scuba diving instructor Cass leads her students out for their first dive off the beautiful coast of Koh Sang, Thailand's world-famous party island. It's supposed to be a life-changing experience, but things quickly spiral out of control... 2 - Always dive with someone you trust. By the time she's back on the shore, Lucy, one of her students, is dead, another critically injured, and she knows the new and idyllic life she has built herself is about to be smashed to pieces on the rocks. 3 - Don't panic if your oxygen is running out. Because someone has discovered Cass's dark secret, and on an island as remote as this, there aren't many places to hide. There is a killer waiting, and whoever it is will stop at nothing until Cass's life is ruined and justice is finally served.

Every now and then a new author arrives to completely entertain me. Sara Ochs is that voice and THE RESORT is that absolutely irresistible read.

Everyone on Koh Santa has secrets &while untrustworthy characters are great, here there are 2 many &you are 2 far removed from them (this is told from 2 main POVs) that it doesn‘t have the impact it otherwise could. Most of the time we‘re listening 2 Cass question what is truth &watching Brooke act like an amateur PI as they both try 2 figure out what really happened to Lucy, who was discovered dead. Neither were particularly exciting characters.

You know, those days when you just want to chuck it all, cash in your chips, maybe change your name, become an ex-pat on some party island in Taiwan. …You meet new friends, instant family, you don‘t ask questions…. Silly you!

DestinyMorna This was my BOTM pick back in February and I really enjoyed it. I‘m trying to read around the world and this fulfilled my Thailand prompt and was a good mystery/thriller! 6mo
marleed @DestinyMorna I thought it was a fun read. I suppose because I‘ve read so many books where characters- real and fictional - befriend Ernest Hemingway during his expat Paris days, I‘m always a bit intrigued by an expat storyline. 6mo

The plot and characters were never developed. I just didn‘t care about any of it. I really wanted to love it, but I‘m just happy I finished it.

I read this quickly and mostly enjoyed it. But I'll defend my rating by saying that it's not the use of various mental health issues to propel a thriller that bothers me – that can be incredible. It's the reliance on dumb tropes to do so that really grinded my gears. Not for me y'all. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, though.

For a debut, this was an exciting thrill ride. Southeast Asia, remote island, escapism, exoticism, lies within lies within lies, so many exciting twists and turns, murder, blackmail, it‘s all there. The play between the 2 narrators adds to the mystery and I did not see the end coming. I can‘t wait for more from this author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Set at a beautiful Thai resort, the Permanents represent a mixed bag of imports, making it their home— a home they will do anything to keep. Meanwhile, influencer Brooke feels certain that there‘s a chance to break her career into something weightier by uncovering just what — and who— have made this resort home. The audio is a bit disappointing accent-wise since it would have been nice to feature the variety. But it‘s an exciting & quick listen!

I enjoyed this thriller for the most part. There are plenty of twists and turns with the odd red herring. It keeps you guessing right until the last couple of chapters. There are a variety of characters, not always likeable, and it‘s well written. My only niggle is that I found the conclusion a little far fetched for my liking. Nevertheless, there is a twist in the tale which took me by surprise and this redeems it somewhat. #Pigeonhole
