The Last List of Mabel Beaumont
The Last List of Mabel Beaumont: The unforgettable book everyone is talking about in 2023 | Laura Pearson
5 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
The list he left had just one item on it. Or, at least, it did at first... Mabel Beaumonts husband Arthur loved lists. Hed leave them for her everywhere. Remember: eggs, butter, sugar. I love you: today, tomorrow, always. But now Arthur is gone. He died: softly, gently, not making a fuss. But hes still left her a list. This one has just one item on it though: Find D. Mabel feels sure she knows what it means. She must track down her best friend Dot, who she hasnt seen since the fateful day she left more than sixty years ago. It seems impossible. She doesnt even know if Dots still alive. Also, every person Mabel talks to seems to need help first, with missing husbands, daughters, parents. Mabel finds her list is just getting longer, and shes still no closer to finding Dot. What she doesnt know is that her list isnt just about finding her old friend. And that if she can admit the secrets of the past, maybe she could even find happiness again... A completely heartbreaking, beautiful, uplifting story, guaranteed to make you smile but also make you cry. Perfect for fans of My Name is Ove, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and The Keeper of Stories. Hoopla app audiobook to try out, not sure whether I'd like it. Sweet, cozy little intergenerational found family story with a lot of good reflection on life consideration of values and relationships from our 86-year-old protagonist going on a search to find her old friend she hadn't been in touch with for 50-60 years. I liked the British narrator.

Absolutely gorgeous. I am an emotional wreck ? in my top three this year.

Mabel loses her husband after 62 years of marriage and has no family or friends to help her with the grieving process. "The Library" meets "Eleanor Oliphant" with a dash of "Evelyn Hugo". Just wonderful.

Proof that you're never too old to make new friends and find yourself. A lovely story about accepting who you truly are and the beauty of friendship.
