The set up of this book is great. A couple is honeymooning on a Greek island. The tension between them is obvious. What happened?
We learn that throughout the book by letters written by both the unlikable husband and wife. Also, there‘s another storyline set on the island and it makes that it all becomes a bit messy and superficial. So while the writing is good the plot is a bit disappointing.

This was an entertaining but somewhat strange read. It is told mostly in a series of long letters, that end in midsentence. While it was a very different type of story and I am still puzzling a little over what actually was happening and especially the ending...I kind of liked it. I would have loved to read this as part of a book club, as it leaves you with lots to talk about and lots of questions. Thanks to Edelweiss+ for the digital ARC. 3.5/5

A rather intriguing style, with unreliable narrators and unfinished sentences. I rather enjoyed trying to decipher the audio recording, written as heard so you almost had to read it aloud.

I think the reason that I liked it, not loved it, was there was too much going on. I really enjoyed learning about the protagonists‘ weird relationships, but the background plot on the island itself felt like a step too far. (Trying not to give spoilers! 🤪)

I might be in the minority here, but I thought this book was awful. The premise could have been interesting, but the execution was really poor. ⭐️

I preordered the newest Scarlett Thomas. I‘ve not read all her books, but I want to become a completist of her adult fiction at least.

This is a uniquely written book, told in the form of letters, notes, journal entries and cell phone recordings, some of which end quite abruptly. Filled with twists, turns and secrets, this is a slow building story, but as the mystery and tension piques, the reader will be quickly turning the pages to find out more. I loved how the author uses the multiple POVs and the unreliable narrator trope to deftly keep you guessing.

This was unusual. It's a mystery but the format is a bit different.
