"Curator of paleontology Dr. Simon Nealy never expected to return to his Pennsylvania hometown, let alone the Hawthorne Museum of Natural History. He was just a boy when his six-year-old sister, Morgan, was abducted from the museum under his watch, and the guilt has haunted Simon ever since. After a recent break-up and the death of the aunt who raised him, Simon feels drawn back to the place where Morgan vanished, in search of the bones they never found. But from the moment he arrives, things aren't what he expected. The Hawthorne is a crumbling ruin, still closed amid the ongoing pandemic, and plummeting toward financial catastrophe. Worse, Simon begins seeing and hearing things he can't explain. Strange animal sounds. Bloody footprints that no living creature could have left. A prehistoric killer looming in the shadows of the museum. Terrified he's losing his grasp on reality, Simon turns to the handwritten research diaries of his predecessor and uncovers a blood-soaked mystery 150 million years in the making that could be the answer to everything. Are these the ravings of a madman? Or is there something supernatural at play? And what does this have to do with Morgan's disappearance?"--

I started this one as a physical book and just couldn‘t get into it. It was much better as an audiobook and I ended up liking the story overall. It felt like a darker version of Night at the Museum (which I loved) combined with a family mystery that just ended up making me feel sad. I will definitely say it‘s different than my typical read and I did finish it satisfied so that‘s a plus for me 😂. 🌟🌟🌟

Another monsters/ghosts in a museum story. This one is okay, a bit convoluted. Dr. Simon Nealy returns to his hometown to take a job in a museum that his sister disappeared in years ago.

The book started out pretty interesting. The new paleontologist, Simon, arrives at the museum to start work. But it becomes repetitive and boring as we learn of the death of his sister and his feelings of guilt. The last bit of the book is exciting. Overall this book was good but not great.

Page 155. Simon becomes angry after reading Mueller‘s diary entry about a meteor impact. Why? It seemed like a logical conclusion. Why is he so closed minded.

You had me at dinosaur ghosts. Simon is hired as the head of the Paleontology department at his hometown's museum. He takes it to try to find out what happened to his sister, who went missing from the museum when he was a kid. While working late one night, he realizes that the exhibits might not be dead.

Soscha I have a copy; moving it up the TBR! 🦖👻 11mo

This was a bit like Night at the Museum, but with scary supernatural elements. It's set during the height of Covid.

Simon took the position as curator of paleontology at a museum in his hometown. The museum where his sister was abducted from decades ago. He hopes to find out more about what happened to her.

Meanwhile he has to put together a dinosaur skeleton and that leads him to the notebooks of ⬇️

2.5/5 Stars

julesG the notebooks of his potentially loony predecessor, who might or might not have had something to do with his sister's abduction. 12mo
julesG There are the ghosts of the exhibits haunting the museum.

The big reveal of what happened to the sister was definitely disturbing (and I had guessed the who and partially why). I thought it far fetched, loony and rushed. Like: whoops got to wrap this up somehow.
