New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Dray returns with a captivating and richly dramatic novel about American heroine Frances Perkins, who pulled the nation out of the Great Depression. Raised on tales of her revolutionary ancestors, Frances Perkins arrives in New York City at the turn of the century, armed with her trusty parasol and an unyielding determination to make a difference. When shes not working with children in the crowded tenements in Hells Kitchen, Frances throws herself into the social scene in Greenwich Village, befriending an eclectic group of politicians, artists, and activists, including the millionaire socialite Mary Harriman Rumsey, the flirtatious budding author Sinclair Lewis, and the brilliant but troubled reformer Paul Wilson, with whom she falls deeply in love. But when Frances meets a young lawyer named Franklin Delano Roosevelt at a tea dance, sparks fly in all the wrong directions. She thinks hes a rich, arrogant dilettante who gets by on a handsome face and a famous name. He thinks shes a priggish bluestocking and insufferable do-gooder. Neither knows it yet, but over the next twenty years, they will form a historic partnership that will carry them both to the White House. Frances is destined to rise in a political world dominated by men, facing down the Great Depression as FDRs most trusted lieutenanteven as she struggles to balance the demands of a public career with marriage and motherhood. And when vicious political attacks mount and personal tragedies threaten to derail her ambitions, she must decide what shes willing to doand what shes willing to sacrificeto save a nation.

This was a very good book about an exceptionally strong woman. I know I wouldn‘t have made some of the choices that she did, especially when it came to work/life balance. I would always choose my family first, but there is no right or wrong. I loved learning about Francis Perkins and about FDR. I‘d never heard of Miss Perkins before, and was surprised to learn that she had so much to do with the development of our social security system.

I read this 4 book club. I didn‘t think I was going 2 like it @ 1st bc I‘m not the biggest historical fiction reader & I thought it would be technically written, but I love it! It was written in a way that was very accessible, even if you‘d never heard of Frances Perkins, which I barely had. It‘s amazing what she accomplished in her life & we should all be grateful for what she fought for. Even if you don‘t like historical fiction, read this one!

I read this for a blog tour so can't leave my review until the 31st of this month.
I can say though that it's one of the best books I have ever read. I learned some things that I didn't know and that is always a plus
This book is about Frances Perkins. The first female cabinet member. What she did for the people back then was nothing short of wonderful.

A big FIVE star read for me.

Princess-Kingofkings I love Stephanie Dray‘s writing especially via audiobooks. 7mo
