This took me an oddly long time to get into but it did pick up and I really liked the direction Connally took the story. I don‘t think I‘ll continue with the series, though.

One of my #trappedinaspookyhouse reads - thanks for picking it for me, @GHABI4ROSES and to @PuddleJumper for organizing!

I had high hopes that this might be a bit of a romp. I haven‘t read or seen anything Bridgerton, but I always like a woman that knows her own mind and has the means to make her own way. The title was off-putting as was some of the treachery and violence against women. The MC, Petra and her friends are the biggest draw. This 2.5/5 ⭐️ didn‘t meet expectations.

I‘ve read the bad reviews, and I have to disagree completely! I loved this Regency-era, feminist novel where we meet Petra, a Lady of the ton who has no care of the conventions of women of her time and a penchant for discovering the wiles of her fellow society members. There‘s mystery, intrigue, wit, and an excellent cliffhanger that‘s got me crossing my fingers for a sequel! For fans of Bridgerton with a Sherlock twist! 4.25/5

This was way too disturbing to me to be the fun romp I felt it was pitched as. More like a thriller, which is not my genre of choice. Yes, it‘s Regency, but it‘s actually less like Bridgerton and more like… women being violently abused and tortured by the majority of men in the ton? Not my idea of a good time at ALL. Should come with lots of TWs.

Hooked_on_books Oh no, that‘s awful! I will definitely be avoiding this one. 11mo

LiteraryinPA Yikes! It‘s not billed as that at all! 11mo

Bridgerton meets Agatha Christie in Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord, a dazzling first entry in a captivating new Regency-era mystery series with a feminist spin from Celeste Connally.

I had a hard time with this book because I kept thinking I was missing facts that I should know; there are a lot of throw aways about how they previously solved something or helped someone and I just kept wondering if I completely forgot that part of the story or if there was a story I was supposed to read first to understand all these little things. That really took me out of the story and I had a hard time engaging.

This start to a Regency era series features Lady Petra, the daughter of an earl who has proclaimed never to marry after the sudden death of her fiancé. But hateful gossip and a rising body count has her digging in to discover a much larger and nefarious plot than first seems obvious. I enjoyed the minor characters as well as the mains. The romantic side plot may be expected but the tantalizing ending leaves you eager for the sequel!

First in the Lady Petra Inquires series, this is set in 1815 London and billed as Bridgerton meets Agatha Christie with a feminist spin. I loved Petra and am looking forward to seeing more of her. Headstrong and independent, Petra Forsyth, daughter of the Earl of Holbrook, has made the decision (after losing her beloved fiancé three years earlier) that she will remain unmarried…and announces it to the ton. Why should she cede her wealth and ?

robinb to any other than the lost love of her life?
As she enjoys her life without society‘s expectations, she learns the news of a dear friend‘s death from “melancholia” and decides to investigate further. She learns a shocking secret and uncovers the dirty laundry of the upper crust lords. Unfortunately, this knowledge lands her in a frightening situation in which she must use her own skills to extricate herself. There were two 🔻

robinb things that I dearly loved about this book. First, Petra herself. She is a marvel. An unapologetic woman ahead of her time who is fearless and exceptionally keen. Second, there is a bit of a friends-to-enemies-to-friends romance (if that makes sense) which is very well done and adds some spark to what is overall the dark subject of how society women were treated during this period. 🔻 13mo
robinb I‘m definitely recommending this one and can‘t wait to dive in again as there was a very surprising/perplexing cliffhanger here. 4.5/5⭐️ 13mo

Fun romp through the 1800‘s that has us looking at Lady Petra who loves horses and has decided not to marry (which of course is frowned upon). When she discovers an unusual and sinister plot against “misbehaving” wives, all hell breaks loose! Clever and sweet!
