Herald (The Welsh Guard Mysteries Book 4)
Herald (The Welsh Guard Mysteries Book 4) | Sarah Woodbury
4 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Rhys and Catrin contend with betrayal and insurrection as they resume their duties in the king's court ... September 1284. Within moments of rejoining the king's company, Rhys and Catrin learn King Edward has not only melted down the silver seal of their murdered prince and turned it into a chalice, but the chalice itself has gone missing a matter of days before its intended consecration at Vale Royal Abbey. Assigned to find the culprit, they discover instead a populace seething over the predations of the abbey and its officers, and an unusual alliance between Norman and Saxon. As the unrest in the countryside grows, Rhys and Catrin's initial apathy turns to urgency, and with Cheshire teetering on the brink of open rebellion, they are not the only ones who have to decide how much they're willing to sacrifice to bring down a king. Herald is the fourth book in The Welsh Guard Mysteries. Series so far: Crouchback, Chevalier, Paladin, Herald

“So it is divine retribution, then. The Lord God thought to take Alfonso from me, as punishment for I know not what sins.”
Oh really, Eddie? You can‘t think of a single thing you‘ve done that might not be the greatest? I‘ll give you a minute to think. … Nothing? Innocent as a lamb, are ya?

Pickpick

This book had a wonderful mystery, a possible murder (we don‘t really know in the end) and a ton of intrigue. There were almost two plots running simultaneously, woven together beautifully. It‘s getting harder and harder for Rhys and Catrin to continue serving King Edward, especially when he sees no problem with his actions or treatment of others (that divine right to rule thing is a pain in the ass), especially the Welsh.

I can‘t believe I didn‘t get an alert about this coming out in April (although I wasn‘t paying a lot of attention). I‘m so excited to have it now, though. I know what I‘ll be doing this weekend, now!
@Texreader it‘s not Rome or anything, but it is an adventure through history. I think everyone will have noses in this, though. lol

GingerAntics @kspenmoll it‘s different than the series that got @texreader and I into Sarah Woodbury, but I‘m quite enjoying it. 2y
