The library is no safe haven in this taut, tense mystery perfect for fans of Louise Penny and Elly Griffiths Dr. Ruth Galloway series. Greer Hogan is a librarian turned sleuth, an avid reader of crime fiction who possesses an uncanny knack for deductionand now, shes drawn into another murder case as late autumn slowly turns to winter in the idyllic village of Raven Hill. When Anita Hunzeker, chair of the library board of trustees, is run off the road and killed, no one seems all that sorry. Anita was widely disliked, and the townsfolk would just as soon be rid of her. But when a local professor turns up dead as well, his connection to Anita and to other local residents leaves the suspect pool covering the entire county. Greer starts poking around, and the more she digs, the more it seems like everyone she knows is trying to hide something. When she unearths a clue in the old manor cemetery, she finally discovers the shocking trutha cache of dark secrets stretching back decades that could rock the town to its core. Everyone whos come close to the truth has ended up deadand if Greer doesnt tread lightly, she could be the next librarian to get archived for good. Drawing nostalgic inspiration from classic girl detective mysteries, Hilliard deftly captures notes of Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers in this third installment of the Greer Hogan mysteries.

Read in January.

Book 3 in the Greer Hogan Mysteries series happily, to me, returns us to Raven Hill. Book 2 was enjoyable but I love being back in the library set in a old manor house. Anita Hunzeker, disliked by almost everyone, is murdered and of course Greer can‘t help being drawn into the case. I enjoy all of the references to mystery books and characters in this series. #serieslove2024

I‘m caught up until the new one publishes in June.

Crazeedi Hmmmm maybe a new series I must look into!! 10mo

The village of Raven Hill is a dangerous place. Anita Hunzeker, library board trustee and a local academic are both killed the same night. Librarian, Greer Hogan uses her inventive research skills as she seeks to solve the murders. In her investigation she uncovers long hidden secrets and learns that a dear friend has been searching for answers regarding the murder of Greer‘s husband, Dan. Four of five ⭐️ for the love of libraries and mysteries.

Much better than the previous in the series. I loved the characters and the day to day details of working in a library. Also enjoyed the audiobook narrator. The ending was sad and I thought the culprit and the why of the murder was anticlimactic, especially because it could have gone a different way. I am hoping we get a resolution to the Danny storyline in the next book.

I like it when a series I enjoy references one I love: “Although, a witch like Juliet Blackwell‘s Lily Ivory, in some fabulous retro outfit, would be all right … .”
