What Feelings Do When No One’s Looking
What Feelings Do When No One’s Looking | Tina Oziewicz
9 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
An unruly cast of emotions come alive in this romping dreamworld, a place Maurice Sendak’s Wild Things could call home Curiosity, a lithe and floppy-eared creature, perches above the open world and gazes out with a zippy blend of hope, wonder, and longing. From the tip of a chimney, we bound into the quiet and mischievous world of feelings, meeting a troupe of tufted creatures as we go. Sympathy helps snails cross a sidewalk to safety, fear pirouettes in an attempt to camouflage with wallflowers, and pleasure reclines across a doily-donned reading chair, sipping a cup of tea. Elsewhere, our insecurities – pesky, cavorting beings – build intricate cages and stride about with clattering sets of keys. Tina Oziewicz’s words hum with truth, and Aleksandra Zajac’s illustrations bloom and burst with charming details like a sail constructed out of a pair of billowing long johns or a red slipper falling from a contented paw. Taking in the perfect harmony of this book is like taking a long gulp from a trusty thermos and filling up with warmth. What Feelings Do When No One’s Looking surprises and soothes, inspires us to feel.

this book would be best used in building vocabulary and identifying emotions of students. When using this book, you could have students pick one of the emotions listed and write a sentence on how they feel. You could also allow students to illustrate how they feel depending on age.

Week 2: Picture Books! Love, love, love this book. this book does a fabulous job explaining emotions in building vocabulary for little ones. The illustrations throughout are all dim colors, but show great detail in each emotion. Published July 5th, 2022.

One of the most heartwarming picture books I‘ve read this year! It would be right at home under some little one‘s tree.

AmyG What would you say is the appropriate age for this book? 12mo

IndoorDame @AmyG I‘d say it‘s probably geared towards the 2-5 range, but I‘m guessing it‘s highly dependent on the kid since it‘s an emotional empathy/getting in touch with your own emotions type book so it could skew either way developmentally… (edited) 12mo
AmyG He will be 4. Perfect. Thank you. 12mo

Intricate pencil drawings by Aleksandra Zajac portray feelings as creatures in this gentle, thoughtful and quiet picture book by Tina Oziewicz, translated from Polish by Jennifer Croft. (Croft has also translated Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk‘s work.) #kidlit for #AllAges
