Fragile Threads of Power
Fragile Threads of Power | V E Schwab
10 posts | 4 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and set in the world of A Darker Shade of Magic, V. E. Schwab opens a new door into perilous adventure and tangled schemes with The Fragile Threads of Power. Once, there were four worlds, nestled like pages in a book, each pulsing with fantastical power, and connected by a single city: London. Until the magic grew too fast, and forced the worlds to seal the doors between them in a desperate gamble to protect their own. The few magicians who could still open the doors grew more rare as time passed and now, only three Antari are known in recent memory--Kell Maresh of Red London, Delilah Bard of Grey London, and Holland Vosijk, of White London. But barely a glimpse of them have been seen in the last seven years--and a new Antari named Kosika has appeared in White London, taking the throne in Holland's absence. The young queen is willing to feed her city with blood, including her own--but her growing religious fervor has the potential to drown them instead. And back in Red London, King Rhy Maresh is threatened by a rising rebellion, one determined to correct the balance of power by razing the throne entirely. Amidst this tapestry of old friends and new enemies, a girl with an unusual magical ability comes into possession of a device that could change the fate of all four worlds. Her name is Tes, and she's the only one who can bring them together--or unravel it all.

When your favourite fantasy world gets a second trilogy go around - you cross your fingers & hope 🤞

And sometimes you get lucky! While this takes a little while to get going - we have to catch up w our old friends and see where they‘ve settled - the newer, younger characters are so fascinating and flawed. Once their stories start to impact on the original characters, it gets really interesting. A great return to a brilliantly imagined world.

Hi team #gingerbreadgems!

I have been on vacation the past week and did not have enough foresight to take a picture of my December #TBR for #WinterGames before leaving. A major reading goal for this month is to reread the Shades of Magic series so I can finally read the new entry. I am also still currently reading Iron Flame and have a bunch of Libby loans and old BOTM books I want to get to this month.

Fr3NcHtOaSt Love this series 11mo
Kimberlone @Fr3NcHtOaSt me too! I haven‘t read since they first came out so I am excited for the reread! 11mo

I love how Michael Kramer narrates Alucard and Berras ever so slightly different. So cool. #brothers #audiobook

I'm loving Vares too, very Watchmaker of Filigree Street feel. #owl

julesG Michael Kramer made me think of Brandon Sanderson and I was wondering which of Sanderson's characters was named Alucard. Only then did I check which book you tagged. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 12mo
emz711 @julesG I looked up what else he narrates and maybe I'll give Mistborn a second try! 12mo

I'm impressed that I can listen so fast but because it has 3 narrators, I have to keep adjusting the speed.

Loving that this story still has the old characters in it.

2023 Reads continued

TFTOP - a welcome return to the Londons and characters old and new. Was all I hoped for and more. How long do I have to wait for book 2?

TOOL - Just how many twists can one get in a book? Suspended belief and just enjoyed the ride. Rolled my eyes but in a good way. IMO Sagers best since HBD.

It feels so good to dive back into White London and begin this book! I don‘t believe it is possible for V.E. Schwab to write a bad book and I‘m always giddy to begin a new one 😁
