I wasn‘t originally planning on re-reading this first installment of the Antonia Scott trilogy, but I‘m glad! It‘s been two years almost exactly since I read this the first time & while I remembered most of the larger plot points, I appreciated refreshing myself with the characters, details & what seems like a set up for the second book! Exciting, fast-paced & well-balanced, this book translated from Spanish makes for a great read (and re-read!)!

This is the first in a trilogy written by a Spanish author. It is a dark thriller that follows a disgraced cop & a genius woman who work behind the scenes to solve crimes. It has been compared to the books by Stieg Larsson and it also reminded of me Pierre Lemaitre's work. Not only are the characters fascinating, the author has added thought provoking morality issues to the plot. I really enjoyed it & will be adding the rest to my TBR list. 4.25/5

Next up is this thriller in translation set in Madrid. I‘m almost 100pgs in and loving it so far! It‘s giving me Red Dragon/Dragon Tattoo vibes so far & im hoping the next two in the series are translated to English very soon!

Bk3 from my #BookHaul is one I came across on IG on a list of 10 most wanted reads of 2023. Translated from Spanish, I think it may be the 3rd in the series. Does anyone know if the other 2, White King & Black Wolf have been translated yet? Antonia Scott is not a policewoman or lawyer. But she has solved dozens of crimes, but never leaves her attic in Madrid & doesn‘t have visitors. Which is why the footsteps coming up the stairs are worrying her…

This was good. It was “thrilling� and it moved along at a great pace. A disgraced police inspector, a mental savant, and a shadowy organization seeking clues to bring down a mastermind of criminal acts. People threw out semblance to Lisbeth Salander and Mikel Blomqvist (Dragon Tattoo) in early reviews but I actually want to give her the benefit of a female Sherlock Holmes. 5��

What a fun and fast thriller! Spanning just a few days, disgraced inspector Jon is forced to work with a shadowy agency to solve high profile crimes on the downlow alongside genius but damaged Antonia. Smoothly translated, fast-paced and from a variety of perspectives that allows levity to break up the tension & exudes a cinematic flair, I genuinely can‘t wait for the sequel! Some parts may feel familiar but it has an overall fresh feel to it!
