This was a very cute, low spice romance about two people from very different worlds. I loved the references to Crazy Rich Asians throughout - it felt like a much more toned down version of the series. Plus, there's a Corgi!

Absolutely charming YA MM rom-com. Friends to boyfriends—throw in a struggling take out shop, a baking contest, and family drama. AAPI rep. And now I need to find a mooncake to try!!
Breakfast reads with Casey! I‘m about 80 pages into FAKE DATES AND MOONCAKES, and while I‘m pretty sure it‘s not gonna activate all my emotions and stick with me forever, it IS cute. I like the food, I like Dylan‘s dog, and I LOVE that Sher Lee is a present tense writer who doesn‘t overuse the past perfect. (An easy way to win my approval.)
This was such a lovely story! Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, especially when the faking-it doesn't last long. (It sounds counterintuitive but I don't want them pining the *whole* time lol) This had some great discussions around class and culture - tons of Chinese food descriptions 🤤 And the ending was beautifully over-the-top dramatic in the best way

A teen enters a mooncake baking contest to save his family's failing Chinese restaurant but gets swept up as a fake date for a local rich boy. As drama unfolds crazy, rich Asians style, so does the attraction in this queer teen rom com.
This was a cute queer YA rom-com about two oblivious boys who are into each other fake dating because they can't admit their feelings. Maybe a bit contrived at times, but it was a cute, sweet story overall. And I really enjoyed all the cooking and baking.
