One of those stories that you want to start again as soon as you‘ve finished to see what you may have missed the first time around. Really good. Jackson leaves things somewhat ambiguous, making it all the creepier.

Originally published as The Lovely House. My little stand-alone version is illustrated by Seth, but you can also find this story in the collection titled Come Along With Me.

dabbe @jlhammar My favorite short story is, of course, “The Lottery“--ever since junior American English in 1981. When I became a teacher and started with 7th graders, I tried to teach that story because it was what I knew. Can you imagine their 12-year-old innocent eyes when the ending of that story occurred? 😅 2y

Will definitely be enjoying tagged this month. A very cute little book - perfect size for a stocking. Hoping to start Meredith, Alone soon. Sounds great. Wendy Webb is always good for when I‘m in the mood for ghosts and Lake Superior. And Zorrie is one I‘ve wanted to read for months, but was waiting for this lovely paperback edition.
