I loved this sweeping novel about family & friendship. At its heart is the mystery of the disappearance of Martin‘s wife, Cecilia. Rich with art & literature references, intricate as we follow Martin from youth to present day & full of Gothenburg & Antibes atmosphere. Complex characters & thought-provoking re Cecilia‘s absence. Erudite like The Hummingbird & compulsive as the Ferrante novels. Loved the satire of the (failing) art monster.

Martin Berg is a successful publisher, father & friend. He also hasn't seen his wife in nearly 20 years. This book is part mystery, (what happened to Cecelia?) part bildungsroman, part portrait of the artist, part buddy story. It moves between the past & present, from the perspective of Martin to that of his 20-something daughter Rakel. At 600 pages, it is long, too long! But it's also a compelling saga about relationships, art, & ideas. It is 👇

merelybookish Said to be "for fans of Knaussgaard" which feels inaccurate (along his books are long and about art too). But this no autofiction but a big baggy plotty book. I think it could have been shorter, and some plot developments were obvious, still I ended up enjoying it. Comes out in January. #netgalley 2y
