I was completely immersed, and the structure of this novel with so many POVs worked well and helped drive the story. I also loved how central the cemetery's role was in this book.

She never disappoints ☺☺ and this is proof.
Loved the two girls' accounts of the years, how their relationships changed and grew. The suffragette chapters were excellent as it gave me even wider perspective of the movement and how women were introduced to it.
Free library book. I've read a couple by her and liked them. This sounds a good book.
A historical novel about two families in London at the turn of the 20th century. Told in alternating chapters between several characters, including the son of the local gravedigger. A fairly decent read while you‘re in it, but I forgot the plot fairly quickly after finishing it. 3 stars
I admit that part of my love of this novel is based on my familiarity and affection for Highgate Cemetery and the surrounding village. But still... I had a hard time putting the book down, although perhaps the message of a woman bucking the Victorian system and affecting everyone in her circle through her own terrible choices in the meantime is not the best. But I still loved it. A total pleasure to pick up.
This is just a really great book. Definitely worth the re-read as I didn‘t remember the story at all (the trouble with reading so many stories, I guess!!). I loved that it was told by the many different characters, without being confusing. Their voices were so distinct. It was sweet and sad and hopeful. Might have to see if I‘ve missed any other Chevaliers and get reading!!
A re-read if this for my book club and the massive cup of tea in the background are warming me up on such a wet day! All the April showers have come on the last day of the month and we turned the heating off at work when the sun was out two weeks ago 😔🌧 The book, however, is brilliant! So many different characters and such great writing. So glad to revisit Chevalier!!!
Wish you a lovely week!

I adore Tracy Chevalier's writing (though I have clearly fallen a few releases behind). Whether about (from L-R) textiles, paintings, gravestones, tapestries or poetry, her work always touches on art and artists.
My personal favorite is Falling Angels. 👼🏻
