I've read this one with a pen in my hand. Extremely useful and insightful for women of all ages, but equally for men! Raising awareness about menopause symptoms and treatments helps women feel less lonely and misunderstood during this new stage, and regain their normal life.

This book was informative but still left me with questions. It is very pro HRT, which is great, but I felt it glossed over general side effects of HRT. I‘m not talking about the discredited research link between HRT breast cancer. That is explained, which is great. I‘m still left wondering how long HRT can be taken? What happens when women stop taking HRT? The book is full of other women‘s stories. Some are truly harrowing but most are helpful.

squirrelbrain Try this one…if I recall there is a section on when / if / how to stop. There is an anecdote of one patient in their 80s or 90s still on HRT. 1y

This is so much more than a book. It brings the subject right out into the open in an honest way. Lots of women‘s stories and professionals providing advice and support. The reader goes on the whole menopause journey with the writer-well know British celeb - Davina. It empowers the reader with up to date info on symptoms, treatments and what to expect. Myths are debunked, taboos are smashed. More people need to read this and not just women!

Davina has become a voice for (peri) menopausal women in the UK, although I‘ve not seen any of the TV progs she made on the topic.

I‘d already read what I thought was a really good book on this subject, tagged below, but I found this to be just as informative.

Davina includes real-life stories (which do actually feel genuine) and it feels a bit more like chatting with your friends, alongside the serious doctor-y bits. Highly recommended.

squirrelbrain @julesG - another one to recommend to your friends? 2y
julesG @squirrelbrain Thanks. Will spread the word. 2y

Tamra More women need to talk about this - it‘s a roller coaster and I wasn‘t really prepared or aware! 2y
Dragon She has an interesting Instagram 2y
squirrelbrain I agree @Tamra , although it is getting better here in the UK, but there‘s still a long way to go. 2y
squirrelbrain I‘m not on Instagram @dragon but I can imagine it‘s rather interesting! 😁 2y
LeeRHarry I am seeing nothing here in Aus but really noticed things getting better when I was in the UK. My Mum mentioned she saw an interview with Mariella Frostrup talking about her menopause book. 2y
Cupcake12 I‘ve heard great things about this. Added to my reading list x 2y
Balibee146 This is great that the conversations are increasingly there and hopefully a generation of post menopausal celebrity women will trailblaze in the media too. 2y
squirrelbrain That‘s a shame that there isn‘t much in Aus yet @LeeRHarry - hopefully things will improve soon…. 2y
squirrelbrain It‘s very informative @Cupcake12 - hope you get to it soon. 2y
squirrelbrain I see a lot more on LinkedIn too these days @Balibee146 so it‘s getting more out in the open in the workplace as well. 2y
Balibee146 @squirrelbrain thats good to hear 👍 2y
rockpools Have you watched Lisa Mosconi‘s TED talk on menopause and the brain? This is my latest attempt to fight the fog - not sure it helps any tbh, but it‘s FASCINATING! https://www.ted.com/talks/lisa_mosconi_how_menopause_affects_the_brain?utm_campa... 2y
squirrelbrain Sounds fascinating @rockpools - I shall watch that soon…. 2y
squirrelbrain I just watched the TED talk @rockpools - very interesting! So, shall we go live on a beach in the Med and read books all day?! Seriously though, I definitely need to continue to try to reduce my stress. I‘m better than I used to be, but still have my moments! 2y
