New York Times bestselling author Adrienne Young returns to the world of The Narrows with Saint, a captivating prequel to Fable and Namesake. As a boy, Elias learned the hard way what happens when you don't heed the old tales. Nine years after his lack of superstition got his father killed, he's grown into a young man of piety, with a deep reverence for the hallowed sea and her fickle favor. As stories of the fisherman's son who has managed to escape the most deadly of storms spreads from port to port, his devotion to the myths and creeds has given him the reputation of the luckiest bastard to sail the Narrows. Now, he's mere days away from getting everything his father ever dreamed for him: a ship of his own, a crew, and a license that names him as one of the first Narrows-born traders. But when a young dredger from the Unnamed Sea with more than one secret crosses his path, Elias' faith will be tested like never before. The greater the pull he feels toward her, the farther he drifts from the things he's spent the last three years working for. He is dangerously close to repeating his mistakes and he's seen first hand how vicious the jealous sea can be. If he's going to survive her retribution, he will have to decide which he wants more, the love of the girl who could change their shifting world, or the sacred beliefs that earned him the name that he's known for--Saint.

I really enjoyed this one. It brought all the books of the series together in such a great way. I did find a few points where I got bored with the story, but those were easy to move through. I honestly think this is the best of the series.

This is a prequel to the fable and Namesake books. It‘s about Saint and Isolde, how they met and some of their story. However, it did not have enough story for me. I want more!!

It‘s basically how Saint started out, he has a really crappy ship and is smuggling gems. You get to see other ports and some familiar characters.

For June - my #bookspin is any audiobook and #doublespin is the tagged. I believe it‘s a prequel to Fable and about her father when he was younger.

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Enjoy!! 1y

I loved this prequel to The World of the Narrows series. The author took a lot of care with the characters and Saint was a very charismatic person. The plot was well done too. I already have the next book in the series on hold. 4.5⭐️

I could read anything in this series. I absolutely love this series! This book was almost as good as Fable. The way that the author talks about the ocean, and makes the ocean its own character, will never get old with me. I hope this world never ends! 5/5

I had a slow start to January reading, but I finished 2 books this past weekend; Saint is my first finished book of 2023.

I really enjoyed Young‘s Fable duology, so I was excited for this prequel.

Similar magic/fantasy/pirate elements as is present in Fable. The main characters were well drawn, but there was no clear antagonist. Female MC Isolde escapes and is on the run from her mother, but that conflict is completely off page.

Saknicole Ok, I found your post on this. Interesting that you were more into Fable than me. It was pretty meh for me. I didn‘t even think about starting the second book. If it better than the first? 2y
Kimberlone @Saknicole i definitely preferred Fable over Namesake, but I did enjoy this prequel. Overall I like the world/premise (sort of pirate fantasy), the romance is good, although the villains in all the books do not have good characterization. 2y

A spin-off from the fabulous books Fable and Namesake (previous reviews) this one--might be my fave? It's the story of Fable's father & mother, a mysterious relationship in the first 2 books & the story of Saint's risw to becoming a feared and ruthless trader on the Unnamed Sea. Adventure, danger romance, gems & loveable characters, Young spins an imaginative tale allowing me to marvel at her stories. For best results, read them in order. YA
