I really enjoyed book 1 of this series, but it quickly became apparent in reading this that I retained basically nothing. This one was fine, but ended up being just ok for me.

“He‘d called them “beasts of ruin”, creatures of war that could only destroy. Very well, then. Perhaps that was what she would become.”
You ever get 200 pages into a sequel and realize the author has no intention of moving the plot along until the very end so you‘ll have to buy the next book? Bc I just did. There were exactly 3 plot points in the whole book and they could‘ve been the first 40 pages of the next book.
Still gonna finish the series
"????????? ?????? ???? ???? ????????? ??? ???? ?????????????."
I love the easy way the world flows, how Ayana Gray is able to let the story - the world unfold together in a way where I never feel lost or confused or like I am being "taught" the world's dynamics. An excellent sequel, even better than the first! I look forward to the final installment.
Could not put this (hefty) book down. It picked right off at the previous books ending and wen hardcore all the ay to the end. These characters are still so refreshingly different. Ekon is terrified, and the people around him don‘t tell him that it‘s wrong. Koffi is figuring herself out and is gaining confidence in who she‘s finding herself. Surprised there will be another book. There are answered questions from the past, but what of what‘s next?
Fedu sat back and nodded, as though considering the merits of that argument.
"Now, allow me to slightly alter the parameters of that story, he said. "What if I told you that the hunter who went into that jungle to hunt down the lioness did so because, the night before, she'd crept into his village and slain his firstborn son? Who would you call the villain of the story then?"
I am so wicked excited for this long awaited sequel!! Love this analogy too
Ayana has done an incredible job before in the magic from the first book that cannot war to unravel.
