Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock
Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock | Linda Bailey
2 posts | 2 read | 7 to read
The adventures of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his most famous creation, Sherlock Holmes, come to life in this inspiring picture book biography. What if you wrote a story about a detective, and he became the most famous detective ever? Wouldn't that be wonderful? Or . . . would it? Arthur has always loved stories. Even while growing up poor, enduring hardship at school, and living a life of danger on the high seas, stories are an inspiration and a joy for Arthur throughout his life. And after years of struggle as a writer, he finally finds success, fame and wealth with a series of mysteries starring a genius detective, Sherlock Holmes! But when Sherlock's popularity becomes too much for Arthur to bear, will he really throw his greatest creation . . . off a cliff?! From the author of Mary Who Wrote Frankenstein comes a riveting and humorous picture book about the incredible life of Arthur Conan Doyle: doctor, adventurer, tireless campaigner for justice . . . and (begrudging) creator of the world's greatest detective!

I tried to make this last, but I swallowed this picture book biography of Arthur Conan Doyle in one big gulp. The art by Isabelle Follath is truly a feast for the eyes, with delicious details on every page. But I also found Linda Bailey's narrative super cute without talking down to the young reader. It didn't hide some of the darker aspects of Arthur's childhood & poverty, but it was very witty. I think kids of all ages will delight in this.

4 ⭐ This is a very well-done biography of the famous author Arthur Conan Doyle. While most of the story looks at Arthur‘s life as compared to Sherlock Holmes, it also looks at his upbringing and the things in life that kept him grounded. It‘s hard to put a life as loud as Conan Doyle into a picture book but this author has done it with aplomb. The illustrations are bright colorful and match both Arthur and the themes in settings of the book well.

erzascarletbookgasm Sounds good, would love to read this 👍 2y
