pickLydia works in New York as a translator/interpreter for the Logisi cultural attache to Earth. When her boss is murdered, she doesn't trust the police not to pin the murder on her, so investigates for herself.
It combines two of my favourite genres, mysteries and SF, and the sleuth is a translator/intepreter, so I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It also had enough comedic elements to make sure I had a smile on my face as I rushed through it.
pickAbsolutely zoomed through this one. Not in a 'want to get it over with way', but a 'can't put it down' way. I had my reservations about Lydia's life choices at the start, but her edging outside the social niceties and the rules primes her to take on the rollicking plot that develops. 1/?

Not a bad reading year! Didn't hit my goal of 100 books, but I'm starting to realize that may not be realistic now I'm no longer involved in the curriculum review project. I'm amused at the discrepancy between the longest and shortest book - that's what comes of teaching children's lit! Will be interesting to see if Pratchett is top next year as I continue the Discworld series.
Tagged book was my favorite of the year for its original concept!
pickThere was a lot for me to like in this book: translators, sci-fi, locked-room mystery, and a writer who‘s done good work for the Doctor Who Big Finish audio dramas. It took me a long time to pick up, but once I did, I read it in a day.

pickWow! What a fun and inventive read! Set in the future, Lydia works as a translator for the cultural attaché of an alien race. This species, the Logi, communicates telepathically. Lydia is able to translate, though like all such translators, prolonged communication renders her feeling drunk! Part locked-room mystery, part comedy, this is a fun and fast read that took me by surprise! I loved it- and can‘t wait to check out more from this author!
