The Sweet Life (Cape Cod Creamery Book #1)
The Sweet Life (Cape Cod Creamery Book #1) | Suzanne Woods Fisher
6 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
Dawn Dixon can hardly believe she's on a groomless honeymoon on beautiful Cape Cod . . . with her mother. Sure, Marnie Dixon is good company, but Dawn was supposed to be here with Kevin, the love of her life (or so she thought). Marnie Dixon needs some time away from the absolute realness of life as much as her jilted daughter does, and she's not about to let her only child suffer alone--even if Marnie herself had been doing precisely that for the past month. Given the circumstances, maybe it was inevitable that Marnie would do something as rash as buy a run-down ice-cream shop in the town's tightly regulated historic district. After all, everything's better with ice cream. Her exasperated daughter knows that she's the one who will have to clean up this mess. Even when her mother's impulsive real estate purchase brings Kevin back into her life, Dawn doesn't get her hopes up. Everyone knows that broken romances stay broken . . . don't they? Welcome to a summer of sweet surprises on Cape Cod--a place where dreams just might come true.

This is only the 2nd Contemporary Series ive read by Suzanne Woods Fisher and i have to say this is definately a favorite of mine even tho its only Book 1 but could really connect with the storyline and characters. The Characters were very enjoyable and entertaining to read about. Dawn was definately my favorite.

In many ways, this was a pretty standard romcom setup - workaholic Dawn gets jilted by her fiancee just before the wedding, and goes on the already-paid-for-honeymoon with her mom instead of her husband. Dawn and her mom have always had a slightly rocky relationship because Marnie tends to be spontaneous and free-spirited vs Dawn's obsessive Type-A planning tendencies. Widowed almost a year, Marnie has also had a recent bout of breast cancer that⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) has left her more shaken than she likes to admit. Marnie falls in love with the small town on the Cape where she and Dawn are “honeymooning“ and spontaneously purchases a rundown ice cream parlor, determined to follow her husband's dream of owning one. Dawn, of course, sees only the problems and setbacks, and ends up staying to “fix“ her mom's situation.

I did overall enjoy this book quite a bit. It was way more about Dawn and her mom -⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) the romance was definitely secondary, almost to the point that it felt like it shouldn't have even been there. There were a few things like that. There were some good thoughts on cancer and how everyone deals with it differently, etc., but it felt like there could have been more. Dawn felt almost stereotypical in her work obsession - yet is willing to take off an entire summer even though it means she definitely won't get her promotion? ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Honestly my biggest question mark was the fact that this small town is only 2hrs away from where they live, but they literally never go back home to like, get some clothes??? It was weird.

I could nitpick this story, but honestly on the whole it was warm and sweet and I enjoyed it. Supposedly there will be more books in this series to come, and I can definitely see myself reading the next one as well.

TheAromaofBooks @Bookwormjillk - Their business plan was completely unrealistic, but I was willing to ride with it 😂 2y

#WeeklyForecast is still looking pretty busy. I am finally through all the newly-published books that all came in at the library at once & all had to be read and returned ASAP 😂 So now it's back to the TBR! The only “urgent“ read I have is the tagged book, which I received from the publisher for review, so it will probably be next up. Other than that, I'm letting my random number draw decide what happens - no bad options, so that helps!! @Cinfhen

SilversReviews Nice books. Loved LIES by T. M. Logan. Enjoy all of these. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @SilversReviews - Lies has been on my TBR since 2018! 😂 3y

What can be more sweet and uplifting than revival of an ice cream shop on Cape Cod by a mother-daughter duo trying to escape grief and disappointment? Through widowhood, cancer treatment, broken engagement, and heavy duty renovation of an old dilapidated shop, the two women find purpose, renovation of their own hearts, and friendship.
I received the book via Celebrate Lit and opinions are my own.

I received this book in the Librarything.com Early member giveaway for an honest Review. The opinion of this book is my own. I loved the plot of the book and most of the characters. I enjoyed the faith content in the book a lot. This is the first book in the series. I gave the book a 3 out of 5 stars because I didn't love it but I did enjoy the book and will be finishing the rest of the book as they come out.
