4 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
In the penultimate thriller of the New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling Department Q series, the team must hunt for a nefarious serial killer who has slipped under the radar for decades. On her sixtieth birthday, a woman commits suicide. When the case lands on Detective Carl Mrcks desk, he cant imagine what this has to do with Department Q, Copenhagens cold cases division. Its a tragedy to be sure, but the cause of death seems to be clear. But his superior, Marcus Jacobsen, is convinced that this is not in fact a suicide, but a murder related to an unsolved case that has been plaguing him since 1988. At Marcus's behest, Carl and the Department Q gangRose, Assad, and Gordonreluctantly begin to investigate. However, they quickly discover that Marcus is on to something: Every two years for the past three decades, there have been unusual, impeccably timed deaths with connections between them that cannot be ignored. As they dig deeper, it becomes clear that these accidents are in fact murders by a very cunning and violent serial killer. Faced with their toughest case yet, made only more difficult by COVID-19 restrictions and the challenges of their own personal lives, the Department Q team must race to find the culprit before the next murder is committed, as it is becoming increasingly clear that the killer is far from finished.

Well written, complicated plot with layered characters. Lurking in the background is the first shut down in 2020 due to Corona virus in Copenhagen. This police procedural has such depth that I am totally absorbed. Highly recommend, despite the fact that I am only half way through the book! #libraryfind #litsylovereads

I loved being back with the Department Q gang, Carl, Assad, Rose and Gordon. This time they are looking into a series of mysterious deaths that have been seen as accidents or suicides, but could they have been killed by a serial killer? With this ending, I hope we don‘t have to wait too long for the next one

Andrew65 Fantastic 👏👏👏 Still have this one to read. 2y

The Shadow Murders is the 9th book of the 10-book series. The book is a whole set-up for the last book to come. It was a dark and violent book with chapters switching back and forth between the good and bad guys. The story had multiple POV's. The cliffhanger at the end will lead into the last and final book of the series. I have read the other books of the series but this book is only 3 stars.

EadieB I do look forward to the last book and hopefully will enjoy that one more. If you love books about cold-cases then you would love this book. I would like to thank Penquin Group Dutton and NetGalley for a copy for an honest review. 2y

EadieB @Andrew65 I think there is something lost in the translation. 2y
Andrew65 @EadieB Quite possibly, they seem quite long winded, lacking in pace and tension. 2y
EadieB @Andrew65 I agree! 2y

Yes! I‘ll soon dig into the latest installment in Department Q. I think it‘ll be published in English later on this year. Hopefully it‘s as good as the previous one, which is my favourite this far.

Texreader I agree, his last one was by far his best. I didn‘t know a new one was due! Yay! 3y
EadieB Looks good! 3y
