Can You Hear Me?
Can You Hear Me? | Y Y Chan
1 post | 1 read
Can good things really come from bad things? Why does God allow bad things to happen? Will Daddy still be able to hear me from Heaven? These are just some of the questions Renee starts thinking about after she finds out her daddy has cancer. She feels very sad and struggles to understand why this is happening. All she can think to do is pray and ask God to make her daddy better. But when she realises he isn't, she begins to wonder what God's plan is, and whether God can hear her prayers at all. She documents all the things that are happening in her diary as she watches her daddy go through the stages of cancer. There is a picture book version of this story titled 'Can You Hear Me, Daddy?' suitable for readers aged 7+ https: //www.amazon.com/dp/B08797XDH6/

Book #41
Can You Hear Me? | Y Y Chan

This book is a tearjerker for sure. You need to be prepared with some tissues & know it will break you in the most beautiful way.
Trigger Warnings:
Talks about the loss of a loved one. Deals with deep emotional pain, talks about religion & faith. It‘s a great book for teens and adults. Even younger kids, depending on their personal emotional maturity. More ⬇

JudeCC This is a beautiful book that will benefit any reader dealing with grief.
Form the beginning I can tell this is going to be a difficult book for me to read given the theme and writing. I lost my father when my son was only six years old from a massive heart attack. I couldn‘t say goodbye. Both my mother and sister have had cancer. So this is close to my heart, and it‘s something that will resonate and sting.

JudeCC I love the that the MC started to pray. Love that her voice is so true to what we do as kids, and even as adults, when it comes to someone dying. I was in 9th grade when they told me about my mom‘s cancer. I was 15 yrs old. A little older than the MC, but that kind of news and pain, hits us no matter how old we are. We all ask the question from time to time: I wonder if God can hear my prayer. He does. He always does. More ⬇

JudeCC So far the first chapter destroyed me. Great job on being true to her voice.
I love how each chapter is divided by dates/time/notes on her diary. She always brings positivity to her stories. That no matter how bad things are or not matter if you don‘t understand something, you shouldn‘t give up. You can be anything you want. Try. Pray. Love that! I like how the author didn‘t sugarcoated the story. It‘s raw as it needs to be. More ⬇

JudeCC Everyone hurts and go through this kind of pain and have the same doubts and fears and it‘s important to know that it‘s okay! I really wish I would have read this when I was 15. I‘m sure it would have helped me digest what I was feeling at the moment.
Trust God. Thank you, Chan. The world needs this so much. More ⬇

JudeCC All the questions she asks ring so true. This story comes from the author‘s heart. It shows. It‘s not written just to fill a blank paper with words to meat a deadline. It has a purpose and soul.
This is not a book that tries to preach you or convince you there‘s a God, or saturated with religion. It‘s a book that digs deep into your mind & heart from the POV of a 12 yr old with the questions most of us asked at that age & as adults.

JudeCC It reminds us we are not superheroes. That sometimes there are questions we are not capable of answering. That we need someone to listen, no matter what our beliefs are.
The theme of church, keeping the faith, and prayer is something a lot of stories out there lack, and it‘s something this world needs so bad. To be reminded there‘s a God who listens to us, even when we think there‘s no one listening. Again, thank you, Chan. More ⬇

JudeCC At least that‘s MY personal POV on the matter. I respect everyone elses POVs.
I‘m grateful that even through the worst moments in the story, the MC turns the tables around & brings a positive & beautiful image to life by doing something she shares with her father. I can‘t explain a lot, because I don‘t want to spoil it, but what she does, brings hope, even though you are still reading it from another POV and know the reality of it. More ⬇

JudeCC At least through her eyes, we feel like she‘s learning how to cope with the pain of what‘s going on. I hope this makes sense. You‘ll understand once you read.

WOW! This hits hard. The way she prays, the way her plead changes throughout the story, breaks my heart, but also lets me know she‘s growing. Her understanding is deeper as the story unfolds. LOVED Ch 9! Chapter 10 DESTROYED me! The message on ch 12 is beautiful!

The waiting…

LOVED the ending! Beautiful debut!
This is a cathartic and gem of a story. It was a blessing for me and I hope it can be a blessing to others too.
