Underneath the parody of the classic myth/heroic story is an incredibly smart, self-aware, logical structure crafted w/ expert precision & growth arcs. Despite frequent absurdity & anachronisms (like vending machines deep in a fantasy cavern), nothing was included in a hand-wavy way.
