Eyes That Speak to the Stars
Eyes That Speak to the Stars | Joanna Ho
10 posts | 5 read
New York Times bestselling team Joanna Ho and Dung Ho present Eyes That Speak to the Stars, companion to the acclaimed Eyes That Kiss in the Corners. A young Asian boy notices that his eyes look different from his peers' after seeing his friend's drawing of them. After talking to his father, the boy realizes that his eyes rise to the skies and speak to the stars, shine like sunlit rays, and glimpse trails of light from those who came before--in fact, his eyes are like his father's, his agong's, and his little brother's, and they are visionary. Inspired by the men in his family, he recognizes his own power and strength from within. This extraordinary picture book redefines what it means to be truly you. Eyes That Kiss in the Corners received three starred reviews and was embraced as breathtaking, lyrical, and poignant. This companion volume is sure to be welcomed with equal joy.

This story celebrates the differences in features across different people and even though someone may look different it's good to celebrate those differences. The color choices in this book and the use of pictures show even deeper what the overall meaning of the story is and really capture the attention of any aged reader.

“Eyes That Speak to the Stars“ is illustrated by Dung Ho who does a fantastic job of bringing in the elemental design of value and the lightness and darkness used between different scenes in the book to depict various emotions or sometimes the same emotion uses both light and dark as well.

This picture books tells a heartwarming and empowering story of a young boy who is not proud of who he is, simply because he does not look exactly like his peers. Through ancient storytelling from his father and grandfather, this young boy learns to love himself and feel empowered by his differences. This story is a great way to lead a discussion on inclusivity, understanding different cultures, and the importance of being proud of who you are.
