The Cat Ate My Gymsuit | Paula Danziger
7 posts | 15 read | 2 to read
A gorgeous new package for Paula Danzigers backlist with an introduction from Ann Martin! Marcy's life is a mess. Her parents don't understand her, she feelslike a fat blimp with no friends, and her favorite teacher just got fired. Ms. Finney wasn't like the other teachers, and she was helping Marcy feel good about being herself. Now that she's gone, Marcy doesn't know what to do. She's always thought things would be better if she could just lose weight, but the loss of Ms. Finney sparks something inside her. She decides to join the fight to bring back her teacher, and in doing so, she discovers that her voice might matter more than she ever realized. Paula Danzigers novels are hilarious, genuine, and full of dynamic female characters that have won the hearts of her readers and turned her books into beloved classics. These playful covers full of charming details capture the spirit of Paulas stories and will brighten up the bookshelves of her fans and a new generation of readers.

Today, one of my podcasting dreams comes true as JASMINE GUILLORY joins me as a guest on my show! We chat about the ‘70s classic THE CAT ATE MY GYMSUIT. The book is about patriotism, feminism, and self-esteem way more than it is about cats or gymsuits, and Jasmine and I spend much of our time together reflecting on why it feels so timeless. 🐈🇺🇸 Listen at the link in my bio!

As an often roaming school-based therapist I find myself in some pretty strange offices sometimes. This one in a super old school has a “scary closet” which two 9 year old sisters decided they were brave enough to explore. They discovered what one termed “old-ass books”. They then decided to display them alongside beanie babies to make them look nicer. 🤣

I posted about this childhood favorite last week & I found the full cast production on my library's Overdrive. It was fun to listen to it (although a bit dated in places, it still holds up overall) & I was surprised at how much I remembered of the story. A quick listen & it included an afterward read by the author from 2004, the book's 30th Anniversary & sadly the year Danziger passed away.😢Danziger & this book will always have a piece of my ❤️.

Day 27 #JubilantJuly #Publishedinthe1970s #90sinJuly #KidsinAmerica Even though the song is from the 90s, I'm combining photo challenges today & offering up what I (a kid in America) was reading with these 6 favorite books of mine that were published in the '70s. I would have been reading these in the mid-to late part of the decade in my preteen/teen years. I adored Paula Danziger, Lois Duncan & Judy Blume books the most.💜📚💜 #multitasking

RealLifeReading I was a Judy Blume fan but maybe the other writers' books didn't make it to my shores as a kid as I don't recall reading them 7y
Eryn2513 The Cat Ate My Gymsuit!!! I checked this out of my school's library so many times that the librarian gave it to me at the end of 6th grade! Great trip down memory lane, thanks! 😁✨💜 7y

DebinHawaii @Cinfhen @LeahBergen ⚡️📚⚡️😆 @merelybookish @LauraBeth @Eryn2513 I loved Danziger's books so much--especially The Cat Ate My Gym Suit. I need to find them again and reread them too. 💜📚💜 @RealLifeReading Judy Blume was probably the best seller of the group & most famous. 👍😀 @Audrey @Ahenchcliffe I do remember Norma Fox Mazer & Paul Zindel both--the 70s-80s had some great YA authors! 📚❤️ 7y

#tbt to one of my favorite series from childhood. In general Danziger's books are hilarious, awkward, realistic (though, in the case of The Cat Ate My Gymsuit, quite dated now). But these were my *first* Paula Danziger books, purchased at the Kennebunk Book Port in Maine during vacation with my family the summer I was ten. The bookstore was always one of our first stops, and I did a lot of poolside reading on those trips. Marcy Lewis was my hero.

LauraBeth Her books kept me great company as a kid 😀 8y
DebinHawaii I loved Marcy Lewis and Paula Danzinger--some of my favorite books growing up! 👍📚❤️😀 8y
