A few high school kids find a book with some black magic and decide it would be a great idea to try a spell out. They get powers and invite an entity from another world in too!
so-soThis story is very much Chronicle meets Stranger Things.
so-soThis is my first read by Brett Riley. A group of bullied high schoolers open an ancient portal that releases creatures into the town and some how gives them special powers. This gave me some horror/superhuman comic book vibes. There were times that there was too little information or too much.

panFreaks could have been a book I loved and I'm sad to give it a pan because based on the premise I thought it would be a great read. Bullied teens find themselves with powers after pretending to cast a spell that actually works to their surprise.
There is not much character development. The story has too many unexplained tangents and the resolution feels rushed and forced.
