Yesterday evening involved horror and kola champagne (which is a lot like cream soda). Mathew West‘s debut has atmosphere to spare and he bailed that 1920s feel with his prose style, but I was a LITTLE disappointed with the ending. It fits the narrator‘s character and it does some interesting things with monstrousness, but it felt too close to conventional happiness, even with everything in play.

Pickpick

An atmospheric and creepy gothic style story. I enjoyed the style of writing, it‘s perfect for the type of book it is. The story draws you in slowly. I really didn‘t know what was going on and I‘m not that sure I knew by the conclusion either! Even so, I found it very compelling and was eager to turn the pages. A great all round eerie tale set in a spooky old house. What‘s not to like? #Pigeonhole
