Two hundred years ago, Britain lost the Napoleonic War and fell under the thumb of French domination. Gaining independence after decades of civil disobedience and anarchist bombings, the Socialist Republic of Britain is now a small, unimportant backwater connected by a railway bridge, steampowered dirigible, and mutual suspicion to France. When a British diplomat's murder is made to look like suicide, ferocious DetectiveInspector LeBrock of Scotland Yard stalks a ruthless murder squad through the heart of a Belle Epoque Paris, the center of the greatest empire in a world of steamdriven hansom cabs, automatons, and flying machines. LeBrock's relentless quest can lead only to death, truth . . . or war. * Following on the heels of his internationally acclaimed graphic novels The Tale of One Bad Rat and Alice in Sunderland, Grandville is a fantastical and audacious rollercoaster ride, visually stunning and rich in memorable detail.

Oh my god. SO clever. A terrier called Snowy Milou, with opium fuelled fantasies of travelling to the moon , the Congo, Blue Lotuses and Captain "Havoc. "

Thoroughly enjoying this. And all the incredibly clever references. I love the panel with the Dogs playing Cards. Another incredibly clever reference is the prime minister , who's a bulldog, whose name is Drummond. So clever.

Got this on my ipad from Hoopla and that made the graphics great. Heard about this graphic alt history steampunk on litsy (I‘ll tag once I look it up, sorry) and loved it- France won the Napoleonic Wars and Britain just got its independence. First book is warmongering to keep power and has anti- immigrant sentiment (yes, a timely alt history). Will read on- would work for steampunk #Booked2018 challenge.

Mehso-so

A steampunk alternate history where Napoleon won the Napoleonic Wars & the world is run by animals. A great concept, but I unfortunately have to accept this story isn't written for me. It's glaringly male-centric & showcases the stereotypical make-centric values: it's shockingly violent---and your hero is MORE violent than your villains. Your hero has an Olympic powerlifter's musculature (Hey, where'd his head go?) Wish I could have liked it more.
