This is a biography about a girl named Nina Simone. She grew up in a very religious household where her momma was a preacher and house maid. She had a rough time growing up because she was not easily excepted because of her color of skin. She was very talented in playing the piano. She tried to get into a performing arts program called Curtis Institute. She later learned she was rejected because of her skin color. She grew more popular overtime.

I think this book is an important read because it shows how powerful African Americans used different outlets (such as music) to protest the discrimination that they faces.

Published in 2021, this book describes the story of famous black musician Nina Simone (originally Eunice Kathleen). It address the struggles and hardships she faced as a young black woman as she started off her music journey. This book is a good read to not only learn about a black artist, but also the discrimination they faced. This book won the Coretta Scott King Award in 2022.

This book uses storytelling from the POV of a young black girl growing up in America in the 1950s. It tells the story of artist Nina Simone and how music shapes us, while history is written. The book gives insight to powerful black leaders and how their legacy lives on today.

This book Nina, A Story of Nina Simone was published in 2021. It is a 2022 honor book for Coretta Scott King book award. Also, it is an honor of the Orbis Pictus award. This book uses a story to show readers the injustice that was going on from the point of view of a young black woman- musician. This story allows kids to understand American History in a way that is easy to follow & engaging.

I thought the illustrations in the book were absolutely amazing, it felt like I was inside of the book when I was reading it!

This book was so touching, I really loved it and the illustrations were amazing. It tells a very moving story about finding your voice and standing up for what you believe in, a great message to send to children! It won the Orbis Pictus Award and was published in September 2021.
