It‘s been a struggle for me to finish reading anything the past few weeks. Not that I haven‘t been reading. I dnf‘d the disappointing Death by Dumpling so it could go to the next person on the waitlist. At least I finished Grave Peril, but I‘m not enamored with the series it belongs to.

Hoping some horror short stories I can dip in and out of will provide a good counterpoint to Jade City and my book club‘s read for this month.

NIGHTMARE offers up another strong entry in the Queers Destroy! series, this one focused on horror. I enjoyed all the stories, got a lot out of the nonfiction and poetry offerings, and NEED to read more from contributors Lee Thomas and Alyssa Wong.

I wasn‘t strapped for time this morning, so I had a proper breakfast and read my daily short story with my eyeballs! It felt so novel after yesterday, when I downed a Clif bar and listened to two stories on the Clarkesworld podcast while I worked (with many thanks to @mreads for reminding me it exists. It‘ll be a big help on days when I don‘t have time to read a full story in the morning).

Last weekend I got to focus on my mental health. This weekend I‘m seriously strapped for time thanks to some physical health issues that stole two weekdays from me. My morning reading felt appropriate.

I lovelovelove Nightmare magazine. Each issue has at least one story that makes me regret reading home alone. They actively support diversity in horror, and I've found great new to me authors like Nadia Bulkin, Tananarive Due, and Maria Dahvana Headley. #spooktober #horror #diversitymatters

I don't have a picture of this magazine, I borrowed it from my daughter, but I LOVED the story by Alyssa Wong Hungry Daughters of Starving Mothers.
Check it out, a science fiction story like none I've ever read.
