Alexandria: The Quest for the Lost City Beneath the Mountains | 
pickA really interesting look at deserter, traveler, archaeologist and unwilling spy Charles Masson who spent much of his life searching for one of Alexander the Great's lost cities in Afghanistan.
My main quibble? The book is more about the political situation in Afghanistan, the larger than life characters and the cruelty and betrayal of the East India Company than it is about Masson's search for Alexandria. Foremost in his mind, but not in text.
