Here's my March #BookSpin #BookSpinBingo list! Many repeats from last month due to many of them intended to complete challenge prompts. I didn't get a bingo in February--I'll post the board when the month's reading is officially wrapped up!

Can I just send you over to @Megabooks review of this one, because it says exactly what I‘m feeling.

Yes, I was uncomfortable listening because I see myself in that title- a progressive white person perpetuating racial harm. I‘ve learned and I strive to keep learning. This isn‘t a thing we can learn once, it‘s ongoing education and we must seek out more ways to be better, all the time.

Excellent book, as is White Fragility. Big recommend.

Megabooks Excellent review! Thanks for the shoutout. 💜 This was a great read but hard to hear. I‘m trying to further my anti-racist education and be a good ally, but I f*** up, unintentionally, but still in ways that may be harmful to BIPOC people. I need to own it and learn when I do. 👍🏻 3y
Soubhiville @Megabooks exactly. I f*** up too. I am trying to learn to react to being called out in a more productive way that doesn‘t put more burden on others. I try to learn from every uncomfortable situation. I want “doing my best” to keep getting better. 3y

This was a really great challenging read! DiAngelo calls out a lot of harmful acts that are pretty common. She read the book too which I always like.

I think is even better than White Fragility. Both should be read, but if you only pick one, I think this should be it.

Oof am I guilty of a lot of this progressive white person racism! One of the large points of the book is that racism is never something you‘re done with or over. It is continuous listening(!), dialogue, and improvement of oneself. She points out in the last section that allyship is a verb, not a noun, and I‘d do well to remember that. A really good read. #audiobook

Note ⬇️

Megabooks ⬆️ I‘ve read a lot about Robin, as a white woman, in the space of a racial justice educator and how one should listen more to BIPOC voices. She addressed many of the concerns I had supporting this book, and I felt comfortable continuing to read this as a library book. I will also continue reading and supporting BIPOC voices. 3y
JamieArc I appreciate your note. I feel it‘s a both/and. While yes, of course we should listen to more BIPOC voices, I also agree that it‘s not the job of only BIPOC people to teach us. We white people should be teaching/learning from other white people too. 3y
Megabooks @JamieArc exactly!! She made the point that it takes a lot of energy for a BIPOC person to educate a white person, especially knowing they may be shut down. When she does education seminars, she does breakout groups that separate people based on race partially so that BIPOC people get a break and breathing room but also so that white people can discuss and learn from each other. 3y
