When the pirates of the ship Aeiu find no jewels on the island of Ooroo, they decide to take over and ban all words that contain O.

The poor people lose their roofs and doors and dogs and oboes, they are even banned from speaking Os so “woe is we”.

They refuse to give up hope, love, valor, and one more very important O word though, and in the end the day is saved with the help of a magical castle.

Quick and sparkling. #SummerOfShort2 book 1.

Here‘s my #TBR for #SummerOfShort2

The Discworld book is the only one with a page count over 300, but those tend to go fast.

Looking forward to my very first Megan Lindholm aka Robin Hobb book!

emtobiasz Ooh I‘ll be interested in what you think of Miranda in Milan. That one‘s on my TBR too 6y
AiBBot Robin Hobb was one of the gateway drugs to my fantasy addiction....thank goodness! 6y
ctboeheim Small Gods👍. Bridge of Birds👍. I'm in the middle of Adrian Tchaikovsky's first book and finding it rather clunky, so I'm interested in knowing if the later book is better. 6y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @ctboeheim I‘m a Tchaikovsky mega-fan so I‘m a little biased, but yeah, you can kind of see him getting his sea legs in the Shadows of the Apt books. For non-Apt stuff I would highly recommend his excellent 6y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @ctboeheim This science fiction novel by Tchaikovsky is also solid gold 6y

Review, minus the disreputable letter:

I was delighted with the cadence and linguistic play in this children‘s tale. It was very reminiscent with Dr. Seuss‘s writing style. Yet it did address the issues with banning letters in a way that might help children understand the perils present when making things illegal just because they disturb an individual.

#Reading1001

Moray_Reads Interesting. Have you ever read this one, written (and translated) entirely without the letter E? 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Moray_Reads No, but I must look for it now. (Writing this without e‘s was not as hard as I thought). 6y
Moray_Reads @Riveted_Reader_Melissa it's the translation that amazes me, how on earth do you translate a French book without even into English also without using e's?! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Moray_Reads I read the description and it sounds amazing, this one was a children‘s book where they try to ban O and remove it from words and remove things with O in them, but O is actually used a lot. A Void is a much longer book, and with no e‘s in either version that‘s tough to believe. 6y

#childhoodfavorite #booked2018 I love this book! We read it for our #1001books group. Great word play and a book you must read aloud to fully appreciate.

Evil pirate comes to the island and decrees that the letter “O” is banned. The mayhem that ensures is pretty hilarious as he tries to omit everything that has the letter O. Otto Ott, a character in the book, is distressed as he becomes a stutter

2 more to go for this season!!

JenP @Cinfhen this was a quick one that I finished at the beginning of the month but forgot to post the review 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I just finished The 13 Clocks by Thurber and ordered this! 7y

This is a sweet little story that my kids loved as much as I did! Some pirates show up at an island and no one can use the letter O. Hilarity ensues. Even if you don't have kids, read this! 14/1,001 #1001Books
