The First Twenty is a wonderfully refreshing take on the usual YA post-apocalypse/dystopian themes. The world building and "how it got to this" stands apart from the crowd in how believable it is, which makes the reader question how we live today. I loved that many characters had important roles, in lieu of "one super special girl." Themes of forgiveness, love, and understanding the world from another's situation are woven throughout the story.
I swear this book is single-handedly redeeming both YA and post-apocalyptic plots for me. It is such a breath of fresh air.
