The love for funky colourful scifi adventures in graphic novels continues! Admittedly, this one has less queer rep, and no non-binary to speak of, more contemporary relevance to those currently in their 20s, seeking a chance to laugh at the quandries of the day: gig economy, dating, what passes for cool, how lame/evil the establishment and/or older generation can be. A bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes in here, which, as an OLD, I appreciate.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I picked this up because my trusted friend @JGadz11 sent me a pic of some 311 references.🤘🏼 Hell, yes! Sold. This is a clever play on gig economy. Instead of ride sharing or food delivery, the focus is an app for killing mutants that enter the “Bubble” from the outside. An entertaining story with cool artwork and likable characters, but what I loved most were the 90s pop culture references. And satire is my literary jam. A fun read!
“I feel like there‘s ants on me.” 😂 Definitely keeping this line in my back pocket.
I really, really enjoyed this graphic novel. Genius spoof of real life, with a bit of fantasy in between. Highly recommend!✨✨✨
Spending the evening in bed with a book = Living my best life 😌
Switching things up a bit... for this week's #firstlinefridays I'm sharing a shot of the first page of the graphic novel Bubble. Too funny. I can't wait to dive into this sci fi satire today. Happy Friday, Littens 📚❤
This was such a fun read! The podcast was so funny and unique, I was excited that they made it into a graphic novel. The art is absolutely gorgeous!
It's set on an alien world where most of society lives under the safety of corporate "bubbles". Morgan grew up in the wild Brush and now freelances for the app Huntr to take down any imps who infiltrate the city. It's a hilarious take on the gig economy, with crazy monsters and great friendships.
A really fun graphic novel about people living in biodomes on a dangerous alien planet. I didn't even realized this was based on the podcast until halfway through, and, having never listened to it, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and found it easy to follow the story. A fun, funny, adventurous sci-fi graphic novel that is definitely PG-13 at least.
I too would pause in the middle of a boss fight to coo over cute goats, so I get it, Mitch.
I'm back again after another long hiatus!
I just celebrated my 40th Birthday yesterday, so here's my birthday haul!
The Mabinogion was purchased from my Wish list and the others I bought today when my love cut me loose in B&N with a special birthday budget.
Then I tore through Bubble the moment we got home. Overall, a pretty good birthday 😁
