A relaxing end-of-summer book that let me dip my toes into both late 70s and late 90s nostalgia. Doan does a nice job of evoking those certain magical summer days and nights where reality seems both suspended and, at the same time, somehow heightened and enhanced. The playlist at the end was a nice addition as well.
2-10-22: My 13th book of 2022! In the summer of 1979, Jackie, 17, travels to the Sandcastle, her famous musician uncle‘s home and recording studio, where she forms a bond with her cousin Willa that ends in tragedy. In the summer of 1999, Jackie, now 38, has been named the sole heir of the Sandcastle. Memories of that fateful summer return and Jackie is forced to face them. I really enjoyed this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣1️⃣3️⃣
Spent a few hours today reading this beauty. I was drawn to the story because the early part takes place in 1979 when I was almost the same age as the two girls who form the story. This kept my attention, which is a hard task these days.
A quiet, heartwarming story of found family and new beginnings. I guessed one of the two major reveals and the pacing was a little slow. But the audiobook narrator was fantastic and I loved the ending.
LADY SUNSHINE
This was my first Amy Mason Doan book. It definitely won't be my last.
This book is a light read compared to my usual books. It's a very well written and very interesting. From the start you get hooked and don't want to put it down. This book is told from Jackie's POV. She goes to spend the summer with her uncle when her dad and step mother go away for a vacation. From there her life is never the same again.
