A shooting lays bare the secrets harboured by five families in a sleepy suburban cul-de-sac in this riveting psychological thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of All the Wrong Places. Someone in a quiet, unassuming cul-de-sac was shot dead in the middle of the night. Was it Maggie, the perfectionist wife, or Craig, the husband who can't quite live up to her expectations? When Maggie witnessed a shooting and later testified against a killer set free, the couple relocated, putting new pressure on their already strained union. Maggie is constantly looking over her shoulder. She owns a gun, just in case. Was it Nick, a doctor whose family, especially his wife, Dani, must bear the brunt of his ill temper? Nick is an avid hunter, too, and keeps a collection of handguns. Or was it Julia, a recently widowed grandmother? Her grandson is a troublemaker, someone not above stealing from her purse. His friends are equally unsavoury. Her son buys her a gun for her protection. And then there's Olivia and her husband, Vic, who has been laid off, forcing Olivia to become the breadwinner. Vic is resentful. And depressed. He's started drinking heavily, and has threatened to shoot himself on several occasions. Or it could be one of the newlyweds, Aiden and Heidi, who are already on the rocks. Aiden refuses to stand up to his intrusive mother. When Heidi befriends Julia's grandson, it sets the stage for a major blow-up. Every house owns a gun. And anyone can be the victim, or the killer.

Cul-de-sac had moments I just wanted to punch some of the characters. It was a interesting read, I didn‘t expect the ending at all. This book also made you remember you never know what people have going on.

I'd say this one is between a "pick" and a "so so". The beginning and middle are extremely interesting. However, the ending kind of drags. Call me bloodthirsty, but I was so ready for this one character to get killed and it takes way too long to get to that point. ⭐⭐⭐ #2021Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter

Someone that lives on this cul de sac will die before the story is over. And so we are introduced to everyone that lives here, and it is a big cast of characters. And each family has their own issues - lies, deceit, abuse to name a few. This book is a slow burn. Any number of them could die or be killed. And Joy Fielding keeps you guessing until the end.

I absolutely loved this book. It was full of intense things. A very abusive husband, a lying neighbor, a big mama's boy, an elderly lady and a woman who's husband walked out on her. One will end up dead. Another did it. But who. It's a tense book in many places. Especially the abusive husband parts. I wanted to kill him myself. lol

This book is so worth reading.
Joy Fielding at her best.

Was eagerly waiting for this book by one of my fav authors and it didn‘t disappoint. I grew up on a cul- de- sac and remember how it‘s your own little enclave. Fielding takes her cast of characters ( they might all have guns) and winds the tension little by little until a gun has to be shot. Great characters, great story telling. Never lets up from the first word till it ends.

This is a domestic drama about five families in a suburban cul-de-sac in Florida. Someone will be shot dead in the middle of a July 4th bar-b-que. All the couples have secrets and the story is told with multiple points of view. The characters are well-developed and the plot is fast-paced. I found the ending to be satisfying. There was scandalous behaviors of drug abuse, social issues, mental illness and an undercurrent of hope in the story.

EadieB It was my first Fielding book but I do own some of her other books and will definitely be checking them out. I would like to thank NetGalley and Ballentine Books Random House Publishers for a free copy for an honest review. 4y
