😁 https://bookriot.com/memoirs-about-learning-a-language/. Did I miss any? If so, drop it into the comments please!

AlaMich I don‘t have any new titles to offer, but you have certainly given me several to add to my TBR! 3y
Smrloomis @AlaMich 😁 so happy to hear that! 3y
AlaMich I loved Lahiri‘s book! She basically lived my dream of moving to another country in order to fully acquire its language. 3y
Smrloomis @AlaMich yeah and now I think she‘s only writing in Italian. Impressive! 3y

The author is deaf and eventually became a faculty member at Fresno State university where he pushed for American Sign Language to be accepted as fulfilling the core language requirement. This was only in 1990! I had not ever thought of ASL as anything other than a “real language” so this surprises me at how recent it was! Needless to say, this memoir is fascinating as someone who didn‘t know any of this before.

Bookgirl My daughter is taking ASL as her required language requirement in college and it just became a language option last year!! 4y
Smrloomis @Bookgirl wow! I cannot believe it has taken that long! Good that it‘s finally been changed where she is. 4y
Bookgirl @Smrloomis agreed! 4y
