I don‘t really have any answers but at least I‘m informed

For someone woefully uninformed (me), this was a fantastic start to my journey to learn more about the history of Israel. It is indeed simple (despite a seriously complicated and difficult history), well-researched, and even funny at times. I liked Noa‘s personal spin on things and look forward to learning more. Continuing to bear witness to this horrible war and praying for some sort of peaceful solution ♥️

I highly recommend this one. I will admit to knowing little about Israel before my friendship with @Cinfhen . I think it is important for all of us interested in the current war to educate ourselves on the history of the region from the perspective of both sides. Tishby, whose family was integral to the founding of Israel, provides a lot of historical information and how that impacts the present day as well as information on the diverse people ⬇️

This isn‘t typical history book, it‘s a book explaining (and defending) what means to be Israeli, what is Zionism, what is Hamas and why we are here where we are … well researched history events are intertwined with author‘s personal experience/life and that - with her dynamic perspective and narration - makes this book nutritious food for thoughts.

Based on research, her own observations and experiences Tishby wrote this book about and for Israel. I found her colloquial tone a bit annoying, but it serves a purpose - reaching a bigger audience. The book succeeds in giving an overview of Israel‘s history, society and covers the settlements, BDS or the Charedim. It‘s a a good starting point, if you want to explore some topics in more detail.

#FoodAndLit In 2004 our family took a sabbatical and spent a year in #Israel 🇮🇱I found some photos from that year! For such a small country Israel has loads to see, with all types of terrains. In 3 hours time you can go from snow covered mountains to dry desert heat. My favorite part about this country is all of the history and archeological sites.
