Thank you @TheBookHippie for putting this on my radar!

Juul certainly has an interesting story. I quit vaping before Juul got big, so I enjoyed reading about their triumphs and missteps. I have an unfavorable opinion of vaping from my experiences ⬇️, but I think some of the problems with vaping were unfairly attributed to Juul specifically. I think regulation is good for vaping in the end, and I hope it helps adults to quit smoking. #audiobook

Megabooks ⬆️ The EVALI disease attributed to vaping ended up being due to adulterants in THC vaping products, which were even less regulated. After reading about them, I think one of the early nicotine liquid places I bought from used that substance, and that‘s why my lungs were damaged. When I quit vaping, I used the patch and gum. I‘m sorry that I traded one addiction for another (cigarettes to vaping). However, I think regulation would‘ve helped me. 4y
TheBookHippie @Megabooks I‘m so glad you quit and I‘m so happy to see you gained great knowledge from reading this. I found it very interesting and eye opening. I agree with your summation. 4y
Megabooks @TheBookHippie Thanks! I‘m happy to be done with nicotine as well. I worry about people trading one long-term addiction for another, especially since we don‘t know the effects of vaping in 20, 30, 40+ years. Ideally, I‘d like strong regulation and legalization of THC/CBD products nationwide and better organized regulation of all nicotine products. Safety has to be a priority. 4y

TheBookHippie @Megabooks I agree. I quit smoking cold turkey 25 YEARS ago 🤯 4y
BarbaraBB I had to Google vaping, THC and CBD. Am I naive? Now I know what they mean I still know little about them... vaping has not gained much ground in the Netherlands. I‘ve never done it. And didn‘t know there is THC in it? And addictive too? Wow. I‘m glad you got rid of both. I quit smoking 14 years ago but I still can imagine myself starting again one day 😱 4y
HrJust If you like podcasts, there‘s a great new one called the vaping fix by journalist Laura Beil. It also discusses the rise of Juul. And in particular juul‘s marketing toward young people. We‘ll definitely be hearing more about the effects of vaping in the years to come! 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB That‘s not surprising as vaping never became popular in Europe, and you‘re a non-native English speaker. Juul has just nicotine (active ingredient in tobacco) and no THC or CBD. It came in kid-friendly flavors like mango. Yikes! The market for marijuana active parts (THC that gets you high and CBD that some believe has medicinal properties) is HUGE here!! There are a lot of lightly regulated edibles and vape pens that can be dangerous. 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB CBD is legal in states where THC or pure marijuana isn‘t (like here in Kentucky), and people are putting CBD in everything! From muscle rubs to carbonated drinks. There is little regulation that the amount that the makers say is in it is actually there because it is illegal for research labs to work with marijuana products. They‘ll lose government funding and can be arrested!! The whole thing is a mess IMO!! 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB That‘s one reason I‘m pro nationwide legalization and regulation of marijuana and its other products (like edibles/muscle rubs/vape pens, etc) so that researchers can legally test them and they‘re safer for consumers. 👍🏻 (edited) 4y
Megabooks @HrJust I‘m not a big podcast person unless I‘m driving my dad, so I‘ll have to look that up for our trips. I think he may be interested, too. Thanks for the heads up! 4y
BarbaraBB This is so interesting and completely new to me! I didn‘t even know what THC and CBD meant. Of course marijuana and hash (soft drugs) are legal here for own consumption (dealing is not legal, you can get them at our so-called “coffee shops”). They are also legal for medical use (pain relief) on prescription. It is a subject hardly ever subject of discussion. (edited) 4y
BarbaraBB I wouldn‘t have thought vaping has nicotine, I thought it was a healthier, non-addictive alternative for smoking. Is it popular in the US? 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB It was more popular in the US before EVALI (a type of lung damage) was in the news. Now a lot of people have either quit nicotine altogether or switched back to regular cigarettes. As far as marijuana, I think the market for edibles (food that has THC or CBD in it) and marijuana vape pens is so strong, I‘m not sure people would be happy if just the plant were made legal. It seems like we‘ve stepped around simplicity. 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB In short, America is weird. 😂😂 4y
Cinfhen Very fascinating subject. My hubby is a big proponent of legalizing marijuana/ it‘s just easier to “control” and manage when it‘s a legal substance. And we agree, pot is safer then vaping especially Juul which is now no longer available in Israel. 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yes, it is!! I think if this comes to hoopla or scribd, it would probably be worth a borrow for you. 👍🏻 And I agree with hubby, especially in the US with the unregulated edibles and vape pens. It‘s no longer just the leaf here. 4y
BarbaraBB Food with THC/CBD in it? I can‘t even think of anything except for what we called spacecake in uni (cake with hash in it). How could I have missed all of this - in the news, books or tv? I have to learn more about this subject. And I do agree with your husband too @Cinfhen 4y
Cinfhen Have you not tried the THC gummies @BarbaraBB ??? I thought they would be all over Amsterdam. They are really good and they will KNOCK YOU OUT 😜😜😜 (edited) 4y
Cinfhen And we buy SO MANY creams and ointments with CBD / I think it‘s a marketing ploy but hubby thinks it helps alleviate his aches and pains @BarbaraBB (edited) 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB when I googled “cbd” just now gummies (like haribo gummy bears but with CBD) was the third hit on Google. I got several stores in my area and pages and pages of reviews like this https://www.health.com/mind-body/cbd/best-cbd-gummies This market for “medicated” foods is HUGE here. They are EVERYWHERE! It seems like no one just smokes pot anymore. You can get brownies too - including ones that get you high in states like Colorado and... 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB Washington. I see Cindy beat me to saying stuff about this, but edibles are probably bigger than smokables here, and you can get CBD ointment at any pharmacy in KY without a prescription, but it didn‘t work for me @Cinfhen . I‘m reluctant to try more without better testing. 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen are edibles legal in Israel cindy? I don‘t like the way THC makes me feel, so I haven‘t gotten into marijuana tourism, although I have friends in many legal states. It‘s just not for me, but I don‘t see what the big deal is about having them legal and regulated. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (edited) 4y
Cinfhen It‘s a HUGE MARKET and the next best way to earn big $$$$ / I‘m pretty sure in 10 years from now we are going to see a new type of crisis/ scandal. Seems like most of the US is moving towards legalizing marijuana because it‘s a CASH COW like State Liquor Stores. 4y
Cinfhen No, edibles aren‘t legal or openly available in Israel, but they did decriminalize pot and I think they are leaning towards legalizing marijuana usage. It‘s a BIG INDUSTRY 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I agree. The thing I‘m most worried about is impaired driving and accidents. I‘m afraid since legal marijuana is stronger than street stuff that people will not know their limit. Of course this is a topic that I care deeply about. I think we can‘t know how nationwide legalization would affect people, but at least that way laws and regulations can adapt together everywhere. 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I‘m glad it‘s decriminalized. I think it‘s ridiculous to have a prison sentence over one or two joints. I think a lot of countries are looking at the revenue legalization could bring, especially with all the tourism Israel gets. 4y
Cinfhen Yes, it‘s very worrisome about usage and impairment. I understand why it‘s such an important topic for you. It should be for everyone 🧡 4y
Cinfhen It‘s sad though when the bottom line is about dollars and not about humans 4y
BarbaraBB I have never tried THC gummies not CBD creams or edibles. I feel like someone from the Stone Age but I‘m sure it‘s no big thing here or I would have known. We were the first country to legalize marijuana but apparently that was enough for us? I have no idea but it does sound scary - when marketing takes over it always is. @Cinfhen (edited) 4y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen @Megabooks It turns out I am indeed naive. My daughter definitely knows about Juul (illegal here, she mostly knows it from TikTok), vaping (big clouds of smoke, smelling of strawberries) and CBD oil (no edibles). It‘s no hype here but it is not as uncommon as I supposed 👵🏼 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB nothing like a teenager to suddenly make a mom feel like a grandmom! 😂💜 4y
