A Gentleman of Fortune
A Gentleman of Fortune: Or, the Suspicions of Miss Dido Kent | Anna Dean
4 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
With all the charm of a Georgette Heyer novel, the sequel to Bellfield Hall finds Miss Dido Kent vacationing at the home of her cousin. When a neighbor passes away quite suddenly, Dido feels she is ideally placed to observe the reaction of the community, but her suitor, Mr. William Lomax, feels otherwise. As Dido presses on, she learns more about the dirty dealings among the upper classes of Surrey than even she could have imagined. Anna Dean has crafted a delightful historical mystery series; the next best thing to reading Jane Austen.

An old scholar from my school has a company that sends you secondhand books in your chosen quantity and genre; I ordered ‘Mystery and Crime‘, 10 books for Q9.99 and I am thrilled. #BoardBooks Getting my fix despite all the usual shops being closed.

Pickpick

This was my #bookspin for June.

The second installment in the Dido Kent series, it was a little slower than the first. It was still a good mystery with a decent setting and interesting characters. I will continue with the series. Anxious to see what happens with Mr Lomax.

I‘ve been reading way too much fantasy lately and am really in the mood for a mystery, so I grabbed this cozy-ish historical from #Libby. I read and remember liking the first in the series a few years ago, so I hope this scratches my #mystery itch!

MidnightBookGirl Mysteries and thrillers are usually my comfort reads, and this looks great! 6y

Wednesday morning train book: fresh from the tbr shelf, a Dido Kent mystery. My days off are coming and I can‘t wait.

batsy That looks so fun. 7y
Kaye What a cute cover. I like how it says “By a Lady” on the bottom😀 7y
Verity @batsy and @Kaye I‘ve enjoyed the others in this series, so I have high hopes for this! 7y
Kaye I hadn‘t heard of these before. Would you say they are more serious type mysteries , like the Christie books, or more like cozies that are a bit funny? 7y
Verity @Kaye I would say they‘re Miss Marple crossed with Georgette Heyer‘s historicals. They‘re wry rather than funny-funny and from what I remember of the other two although they‘re not gruesome or very detailed about the voiolence, the motives are often more murkier than you find in historicals. 7y
