It was ok
Just starting this one.
Thankful for mornings spent drinking coffee and finishing books... 📚😍☕ #currentlyreading
Not quite as good as I think it could've been, the slight romance feels forced & undermines the heroine who is quality & a great disabled character
#BookMail this came from WWNorton yesterday. We'll see how it goes, I'm iffy on it
#booktober day 9: I didn't have to go back that far, but here's my #firstlitsypost. 2 weeks ago, I followed a suggestion on Facebook, and have felt so welcomed and understood. 😊📚🐛🐦💙😍🌷
Picked this up and couldn't put it down until I was done. A story of overcoming adversity, of figuring out a future, of accepting your past, and most importantly loving yourself even if you have flaws. #beautiful #goluce #somethinginmyeye #bookworm #strange
"This could easily be called a coming of age story even though Lucy is older than your typical young person who tries to find herself. But there are real problems for Lucy as she faces the prospect of being on her own, finding romance, taking on a job. The story feels authentic from beginning to end and encompasses all you would imagine such a person going through. Very enjoyable!" Reviewed by Thalia http://bit.ly/2c3GaDE
A little too much plot in too small a time frame for my tastes, but I love what Adelman did with her protagonist, Lucy. The first person narrative gives us direct access to her unusual mind, as she suffered a brain injury as a little girl. Her relationships with her boyfriend, Frank, & her younger brother/caretaker, Nate, are drawn with complexity and empathy. And there are literal drawings in this book as well--another pathway into Lucy's world.
It was interesting to get inside the head of someone who had suffered a brain injury and was having trouble moving forward. But this book took far too long to get going and, in the end, just stuttered to a stop. Though I suppose that made it more true to life...
Made it halfway through this book and am only just now starting to enjoy. Anyone else read this one?
If a book can bee quietly gorgeous this one is!! Thanks, Liberty! 🤓
